So is that an excuse or a reason?
Apart from being loud & rude, why has she become the figurehead of a climate change movement? She is not saying anything new nor is she providing anything helpful.
Should I overlook her unhelpful position because of her age & her condition?
So you had a working hydroelectric installation (presumably on a river deep in your own property with a damn etc.) and although it had been working perfectly for decades, local officialdom ruined it all without cause? Were there any concerns about other users of the same river up and downstream?
Yes, but no dam on the river. It affected no one there are only a few other houses bordering the whole river (rivière sauvage) and the nearest is over a kilometer away. Local officialdom can normally be dealt with, totally different ball game dealing with state officialdom.
The milkman where we lived a year ago still used one of these.
Not many locals are vegetarians… but someone generally mutters “le vent du nord” around here, if someone farts… and, yes, it’s a joke about the effect of eating haricot beans…
Usually used to prevent urban sprawl not stop a seriously green energy.
There really is no end to the stupidity of civil servants.
They have a very narrow view which creates an inability to see the bigger picture
Maybe. I suspect that is a very long way off.
Domesticated cattle are a human construct, so if over time the existing herds become wild again I don’t see a problem. In the meantime we’re not going to see everyone slaughter their meat animals overnight - their numbers will shrink gradually as the land that supports them is made more efficient by being turned over to crops, agroforestry etc.
I like your optimism.
Thank you. More optimism has to be preferable to thinking that there’s no point in doing anything, as negativity becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Assuming you are referring to the couple, Question: Have you got any windfarms next to where you live, or have you ever lived near a wind farm.
If the answer to this is yes, then you will know the noise emission given off by these contraptions, it can be enormous. These things are not environmentally friendly.
Wind turbines are not that good for the environment, the blades have to be replaced every 10 years and cannot be recycled so end up in landfill. The actual construction of a turbine on site takes years and the base needs up to 250 m3 of concrete.
@Corona, our commune successfully fought against five wind turbines in 2019 that would have impacted all 1100 residents as they were going to be 150 metres high, take five years to put up and at best estimate wipe 20% of the value of those houses closest to the turbines.
If you want to call me a ‘nimby’ that’s fine but we are saturated with them here in 17.
We have them just along the road and have had no inconvenience at all from them. I think there are 6 in total within a few km and more further out and there was quite a bit of opposition locally that went on for some years, but they eventually went up, the commune got its new nice smooth roads and whatever else the not-at-all-bribe was from the wind farm owners, and I’ve heard nothing really since about it, including from locals who I would imagine would be the first to make their feelings felt if they were ruining their lives. None of which is to say that isn’t the case sometimes, some people have been driven to the edge of insanity by them, but just a first hand experience that the fears, in terms of noise and disruption to lives, is perhaps sometimes a fear rather than a reality.
What would another nuclear power station do to your house prices?
Not calling anyone names, its just a discussion
I think the chances of having wind turbines plonked next to you are 1000’s of times greater than a nuclear power station, it’s a bit as long as it’s not me it happens too , they are fine approach
I take exception to that! As a civil servant I was responsible for pushing through sustainable building policies way back when, and fought tooth and nail with the industry who had heels firmly dug in.
Sadly having got it in place along with all sorts of other advances, in 2010 the conservatives took over and scrapped anything that smacked of green building.

Hats off to you Jane! Over the years I realised you know what you are talking about and I know the struggle you must have had as I have shared that pain through similar managing change projects but you’ll have to admit you will know the sort I mean, not the movers and shakers the here for the mediocrity and the pension.
Any hint as to location/departement? Just so we can know constructive green initiatives that disturb no one are a waste of time there.
