I’m especially excited about Dr Who episodes these days since the role is now cast as a female. I guess I’m wondering if it might go the way of Captain Janeway (if you might recall the gender change for the captain in Star Trek tv series…).
Anyway.
I’m moving from the US, where I watch UK tv via BBC… I was hoping to get to see the season premiere of Dr Who when I’m in France, but not sure how BBC tv works… or, maybe it’s not aired on BBC in France?
Should my first question be, rather: when does Dr Who season premiere air in the UK (place of origin)? And then, I guess my next question would be to ask how new shows from the UK, are aired in France? Is there a delay? What channel should I look for, to try and watch Dr Who, when I’m in France?
It’s coming up soon, I reckon, one way or another…?
The BBC and other English channels are not distributed directly in France - although they do sell programmes to french TV chains for them to broadcast often dubbed rather than subtitled. In the UK people have to buy a licence to watch the BBC (which is what pays for programmes and why it is ad free) so they do not want it to be broadcast for free elsewhere.
However, there are several work arounds to make it possible for you to do so. No doubt many threads on here if you search to show you how to do it. My hairdresser watches a pirate version (via YouTube?) that is subtitled into french the same day as it is shown in U.K.
The new series starts on October the 7th. Not long to wait…
If you live in the northern half of France satellite reception is straightforward with a standard 60cm dish (using the Astra cluster on 28.2oE, in Southern France reception is usually still possible but you will need a larger dish.
After that there are various ways of viewing over the internet - if you have a good fast connection in France.

This is by far the best way of watching UK TV as well as hundreds of other Freesat stations. You can get a basic setup in any Brico for under €100 or a fancy recording decoder from one of the many UK TV specialists for €250 to 300.
Just scroll through the languages option on your handset. I’m not a fan but whenever I’ve switched to it on my TV it’s been in English, the default setting on my TNT receiver.
