Driving Licence exchange-categories C and D

Hi,i have applied to change UK licence for FR licence,i assume i will soon be getting notification that it is ready.I am concerned that they may not give me my categories,i thought i saw a posting on this site from Kim about categories not being transferred if you passed your test before a certain year, but i can,t find the info now.I believe that there is no way of knowing until you receive the licence,by which time you will have given up your valid licence and had it cancelled, doesn,t seem a very satisfactory way of doing things.Does anyone know what the correct info is please, thanks.

Do you know what year? Thanks!

I think it was 1997,but i am not sure,if it is ,that means that i won,t get my Cat D transferred, which means that i wouldn,t be able to work.It would be sensible if you could see the new licence and check it all before accepting it.

What does Column 11 on your U.K. drivers licence photo card say for C and D?

Column 11 on my current UK Licence shows the date that my current categories are valid until, but that is not what i was asking.

You need to have a medical to keep your C & D class categories.

Under the age of 60 they need repeating every 5 years, then every 2, then annually. Exact ages can be found here……

Keep assuming soon :rofl::rofl:

I have had the medical when i applied to change my licence as it was a requirement, but with respect, that is not what i am asking.

With respect, you didn’t mention that in your first post, hence why I flagged it up.

As long as you have kept your special categories valid then the date you got them is not relevant. The thing that goes wrong is for people who passed their UK car test prior to 1997 - back then you automatically got Class C1 (up to 7,5t gross weight) included. However, unless you do the medical in France that doesn’t continue when you exchange.

I know that last paragraph doesn’t apply to you, but is offered as advice for others reading this thread.

Thanks for reply,so with the info that you have, everyone who has got categories C and D on their UK licence and exchanges for a FR licence will be gauranteed to get the same categories as grandfather rights,as long as you take a medical.

Yes, as long as the special categories are still valid on the old licence i.e. you need to be within the medical validity period on the UK licence.

I know this because it’s exactly what I did when I exchanged my UK licence for an FR one.

If you don,t mind me asking, when did you exchange your licence, was it recently, thanks.

Out of interest, Euro50, when did you submit your application to exchange?
I submitted mine in January but no news yet.

Hi,i submitted mine in February, but haven,t heard anything,ANTS are very slow,i am asking about categories because i think there have been changes to grandfather rights for exchange, but as you can see, nobody seems to know what the correct info is.

If my experience is anything to go by, you wont hear anything for a couple more months. Sorry, dont know about category transfers, it didn’t bother me.

Although the process of exchange has changed since then (there was no ANTS back then) the retention of rights has not.

I hope this is correct, but hope isn,t good enough really,i think there have been a lot of changes since 2010.
