Just a heads-up that @kim has posted on her Facebook group that there will be a €40 fee for exchanging driving licences as of 4 May.
After a couple of months of procrastination, that’s been enough to push Mrs H to get on with it.

At the outset I was told it would be c6-8 months from submission to having to hand over my UK DL, and that was almost exactly what happened.You should be fine in being able to hang onto your UK DL for June if you submitted now.

@toryroo you keep your licence until you are asked to send it in and at that point you get a temp licence only valid in France and a letter to return your original licence to CERT.
Probably just updating the system as the hack was a week ago.
My application’s in the system. Does that mean I’m going to get clobbered with the fee as for sure they won’t process it for several months more yet?
Seems a pretty steep amount for a fee btw. If ANTS hadn’t leaked all our data I’d be fractionally less narked.
My understanding is it is being brought in on 04/05 so those already in the system there will be no charge, they can’t retrospectively charge you 40€, so unless your application gets cancelled it’s very unlikely that you will be charged.

That’s a relief. The piece doesn’t mention Art50, just “renewals” The 250€ “renewal” charge is half the cambelt change on my car …
Does anybody have Kim’s message of today on Facebook? I clicked to view but Facebook is demanding I let them rape all my data and do uncontrolled things with it. As far as I know demanding consent and not giving the option to refuse is illegal in Europe. I think the EU has told meta / facebook so.

Well this will be of no use to you all but possibly of interest : I have just been to exchange my old paper UK licence (never had a card) for a German one, it was idiot proof, asked for the appt yesterday and had it this morning, I just needed to pass a free eye test as I’m over 50. It came to €42.50 which includes the €6 on the spot biometric photo+electronic signature. I should be able to pick up my licence within 6 weeks, and I keep my UK licence until I collect the German one, they will send it back to DVLA.
(I had been unable to exchange my licence for a French one, because I was asked by the préfecture for a letter justifying my presence in the UK, but as I’m a dual national the Fr consulate didn’t care about my being in the UK a gazillion years ago and wasn’t going to give me a letter justifying my doing my driving test there, so impasse.)
