Due to a spot of insomnia, I actually watched the debate

I think this round up sums it up well…

Apparently Kamala Harris clinched the support of Taylor Swift with her performance so that more or less settles the election. I will never understand American politics (or those of any other country come to that!)

She was already onboard Mik, she is a democrat. it was just a matter of when her declaration could have the most impact. It was a slick Instagram post, I think it worked well and will certainly have annoyed Trump.

The good thing IMO is she might motivate a lot of young people who might not have bothered their barney to get out and vote.

Im three quarters through watching the debate. Harris is light on policy but Trump has the mentality of child.
If he said “My daddy built these swings and yours is a big jobbie.” I would not have blinked.

I remember seeing something on TV about Trump claiming to have the endorsement of Taylor Swift (and, as he implied in the debate, if someone says it on TV it must be true)

… or was this one of his quaint little fibs? [litotes emoji]

It was indeed… Taylor Swift endorsed Biden and Harris last time around, so her backing for Harris/Walz in 2024 is no surprise.

It was AI, though why it’s called AI when it’s really just sophisticated Photoshopping I don’t know. Trump posted it on his barmy social media site.

I see the Harris campaign just happened to have Taylor Swift style friendship bracelets ready to go…

The Harris-Walz campaign quickly capitalised on Taylor Swift’s support after she endorsed Kamala Harris for president in a post on Instagram.

Quickly available on the Harris-Walz campaign site were Taylor Swift-inspired friendship bracelets. Swift fans are famous for swapping friendship bracelets during concerts, tours and events inspired by her song You’re on Your Own, Kid, which includes the lyrics “so make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it”.

I feel a thread about “Terrible Song Lyrics” coming on…

Nice to watch the experienced prosecutor deftly push Trump’s buttons.

I told you so! Says Lawrence O’Donnell. Press at fault – and I think he’s right, isn’t he?

I have it downloaded to “enjoy” on the Eurostar.

I’m sure the press coverage did have an effect, but first and foremost I blame Biden. Obviously O’Donnell isn’t going to say that.

When Biden won I thought he had selected Harris because he knew he had a limited shelf life and that he would groom her to be his successor, and thus secure the democratic presidency for another term, but he didn’t. His hanging on like grime death to his candidacy showed he never even gave a thought to succession. It was all about him, and I think that’s unforgivable.

The US has had its fair share of rotten presidents, apart from Trump the warmonger Bush Jr. is high on my list, but Biden features as well. He screwed up the Afghanistan exit (though Trump had left him a poisoned chalice), he screwed up the Ukraine war. He facilitated genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in West Bank. His economic growth package certainly hasn’t gained traction with the electorate. And finally his hubris made him ignore his succession. That’s some legacy.

In my opinion the only good thing about his presidency was he wasn’t Trump.

I’m not a political debater in the way that you are, obviously, but IMO what was said and done politically behind the scenes, involving what you say about Biden and the rest of what you say, and I agree with you, is one thing, but the spread of mistaken or unfortunate or possible misinformation about VP Harris, by the press to the American public, is something else.

I agree with you completely, but Biden and his press team could have fixed that. In my opinion he kept her in the shadows because she was threat to his second term. Maybe it’ll all come out later. I hope so because anything that tarnishes his reputation further is alright by me :face_with_hand_over_mouth: Though 40,000 dead and counting is hard to beat :frowning:

I felt clearly that she was being totally hidden from sight but I didn’t understand why, which as you say may become known at some other time. And I am with you in Biden’s complicity in the 40,000 + deaths, the huge majority being women and children.

VP Harris is possibly guilty as well, but name me a politician who doesn’t look away. But we don’t know if she did or didn’t. She could have resigned but we’d have Trump back again. Politics – nasty stuff!

Yes, it’s true , but I am hoping she’ll have a more enlightened approach when (:crossed_fingers:) she gets in. The Israeli newspaper I read, Haaretz, reported Netanyahu was furious after their recent meeting :slightly_smiling_face: That’s a good start.

I like her.

Forgive my ignorance but are you referring to the Lawrence O’Donnell video I posted? If so, what does downloading to Eurostar mean?

I downloaded the debate to watch while travelling on the Eurostar train to London.

Watched a Meidas Touch clip which showed Trump, VP Harris and others at the 9/11 Memorial Service the day after the debate. Ben Meiselas suggested that Trump solicited Mike Bloomberg, standing next to him, to attract VP Harris’s attention so he could offer his hand for a handshake and a word.

That’s exactly what it looks like.

I noticed also while they were shaking hands that Trump stretched his other hand over to pat (affectionately?) the back of VP Harris’s hand.

Is Ben Meiselas, one of Trump’s worst enemies, right in what he suggests? He goes on a bit then about MAGA world, crowing! Scroll past the ad…! The rest is worth watching.
