The Eiffel Tower will be one of nearly 400 participating monuments across France to plunge into darkness this March for Earth Hour 2014.


WWF-France aims to raise awareness on renewable energy and climate change as part of its efforts leading up to the Paris COP 21.


The world famous landmark in the City of Lights, the Eiffel Tower, will be one of nearly 400 monuments across France participating in this worldwide event. For security reasons, the Eiffel Tower will be turned off for five minutes, while other monuments like the Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe will be remain switched off for the full hour.


More than 200 towns across France will be participating this year.




A record 157 countries and territories are taking part in #EarthHour 2014. Tower Bridge in the UK will be switching off on March 29 at 8:30pm, along with other major landmarks, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia, Moscow’s Kremlin and Red Square, the world's tallest ...building the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Christ the Redeemer (statue) in Rio de Janeiro.

Exactly. This is far too little to make a difference but at least it is an acknowledgement of how much we waste.

Yet every Xmas,Easter, New Year etc., the street lights are left on all night, at least in our neck of the woods!
