EDF energy bonus scheme

Has anyone taken advantage of this scheme recently? I am looking to install roof and wall insulation, new windows (carpentry!) and new heating system. Is it worth it? Do you actually save money? I read somewhere that the RGE professionals that must be used hike their prices so savings minimal. Is this correct? Would really appreciate any info. Thanks.

I reckon that it is always best to obtain competitive estimates from at least 3 different providers.

Thanks for the advice. I will do!

We took advantage of EDF’s bonus, last summer. We changed the 40 years old oil burner to a hybrid heat pump / oil burner system, keeping the old cast iron radiators.
The installers did all the correct documentation, so it was fairly easy to do the application in EDF’s web system. They did take two months before they paid, after their external consultants had reviewed our project.

The one item in your list that is somewhat debatable is the replacement of windows. I recall that some years ago, when claims were being made by double glazing companies that new windows reduced heat loss by 30%, it was pointed out that while there was indeed a reduction of the heat lost through the windows of 30%, the amount of heat being lost via the windows was only 9% of the total heat loss from the house. Therefore, new windows would only reduce the total heat loss of the building by 3% !
Having said that, double glazing does reduce noise a great deal, and of course they won’t need painting every 5 yrs or so, and will no doubt look nice.
So purely from the point of view of saving money, you may find it advantageous to put replacing the windows on the back burner and spend that money on making sure that the roof and wall insulation is the best that you can possibly afford. You’ll get a faster recoup of your initial monetary outlay that way.
I think you’ll find that closing the shutters at dusk, using draught excluder tape where needed around the existing windows, and providing some curtains to close in the evenings will be a lot cheaper than new windows.
