My EHIC is well out of date, so must get a new one.
Iirc, for us in France under the WA banner with an S1, had to apply for the new GHIC card, but I see on the NHS website reference to a GHIC or a UK EHIC. Is anyone well versed on what a UK EHIC is, and should we here be using it or the GHIC?
We have S1 and a WA Titre de Sejour and we applied last year for an EHIC from the UK, not a GHIC. Exactly why that is and what the difference is I really donāt know.
Thatās what the Farage-style populists want you to think. If the main parties are all the same then why not try something different.
I might not agree with everything that the current government is doing but none of it is on the scale of corruption and cruelty of the previous 14 years.
Labour are doing a rubbish job of explaining what they are trying to do and why, and how long it will take, and unfortunately Starmer has all the charisma of a small piece of gravel (though that is preferable to the likes of Johnson, who was all talk and no trousers).
But considering they inherited a dogās breakfast and are also having to deal with economic and political volatility caused by an insane American President, a dangerous war in Europe, and not least the economic fallout from Brexit, I think they are not doing too badly given theyāve only been at it a year.
There are also many long-term structural problems in the UK (lack of investment in housing and infrastructure, an ageing population with its pressure on NHS resources and a shortfall in pension savings for example) which they are at least attempting to tackle.
Badenoch and friends would do much worse, and as for Farage and his ilk, they are a joke. There is no party less fitted to govern than Reform - look at the mess they have made in the first five minutes of the local councils they have taken over.
I got them to give me both EHIC and GHIC initially as there was no clarity. I think the requests were online, though GHIC address was to UK.
Iām still not sure which extra countries if any, are on the EHIC though, that are not on the GHIC. Wondering if itās the non-EU EFTA?ones like Switzerland and Norway that the GHIC mightnāt have.
For some reason I thought the GHIC would naturally cover more countries such as Australia, NZ, Hong Kong⦠does the UK not have existing agreements with those? Presumably the GHIC has the potential to cover many more countries than the EHIC now.
On the basis that most governments of whatever hue will not want to pay health care in any more countries than absolutely necessary, I think the EHIC is likely to remain the broadest for now.
As far as Iām aware, the british GHIC has replaced the british EHIC now, but the latter is still valid. GHIC can be issued to S1 holders and sent to France.
Things may not be going that great, and they have done some stupid things, but at least they are trying to make a difference. The previous government spent 8 years since the Brexit vote staring up their own fundament and putting forward endless proposals to āstop the boatsā. Oh, and crashing the economy. And endless austerity. And rampant corruption during Covid.
Edit: I see there is an attempt to go back on topic. Sorry
GHIC=for those in the UK
EHIC issued by the UK= WARP beneficiaries in Europe
France canāt issue you an EHIC if youāre on an S1 (thatās the CEAM that you see on CPAM website) - you have to get it from UK NHS Overseas Services.
Iām not sure who issues the EHIC for those covered in France for healthcare without S1
I agree - but they have made errors that I donāt think the public will forgive quickly.
And Reeves is too conventional - a wealth tax would be a hugely popular, not to mention fruitful but she wonāt do it despite it being the logical thing to do. QE largely did not cause inflation because it went into the pockets of the wealthy. As far as it went that was OK - it was designed to prop up the stock market at the time and it worked pretty well at that. However we now need that capital back to re-inject into the economy.
