Hello everyone,
I'm hoping someone may have trod this path before me and have advice to give:
my mother is 87 and has mobility and breathing problems. She is in hospital in the UK and we are looking at her after hospital options.
She would like to move in with us here in France. We have the space and while I won't pretend it would be easy, we could manage. But she will need a care package. If she returns to her flat the therapist says she'll need 4 visits a day. As she will eat with us I think I could cut that down to two; help showering and dressing and a nurse to change the dressings on her legs.
She's covered by the NHS of course, no private insurance and I am covered by the Secu as I work. Would her care be covered over here? Would we be reimbursed and would she be covered if she had to go back into hospital?
Any help or advice would be gratefully received...
Hello Angela I have my elderly mum with me here , she has nurses from CLIC who come out to wash and dress her every day this service is free and wonderful . They come out at first to asses how much help the person needs and i belive will come out twice a day, this package wasnt agreeable to mum so they tailored it to her wishes they really are a fantastic help ! As for health cover I was told by DWPin england that mum would have full 100 per cent cover here yes she got her cv but the cover is only 65or 70 percent sadly for us we were not aware until she had to go to hospital when she first arrived and for that she now is facing a 12 thousand euro bill !!!!!!!! I then found out that she would need top up cover and at 89 years of age it was very expensive i started with one at 170 PER MONTH !!! But you can find cheaper and have now switched to a cheaper one (not a lot cheaper mind you) Do make sure everything re top up etc is sorted before your mother comes out !!! I spent three years trying to get England to help and have had a nightmare which has ended up with france now taking the money from her state pension and leaving her with 300 Per month to live on and as i am unable to work because of caring for her we are in a dire situation.all this aside the care she had in hospital was second to none and CLIC are great and i am pretty certain provide a lot more in the way of support and care in cases of mobility and health problems !!! Wishing you and your mum all the best just make sure you dont swallow anything from England and you just deal with he frech side of things ! :D feel free to contact me if you like! contact Association locale ADMR (clic) hope this is of help to you !
Just an idea: translate your message into French and send it to AMELI or your 'Securite sociale' contact, wait a week then phone them and see.
