does anyone know if there are any English speaking groups in the department of LOT ?
Absent any response here, I’d look on Facebook. That’s where I’ve seen such groups advertised.
Where in the Lot are you?
There’s a popular language cafe in Figeac.
There’s also our weekly international Lot Valley hiking group which is mainly anglophones (though not many Brits). We walk and talk in english, dutch and occasionally french in the the northern Aveyron, southern Cantal and eastern Lot - basically where the three abut one another. New people always welcome, particularly if they have well-trained dogs
My knowledge of the Lot is limited but there seem to be quite a few anglophones, so maybe look for groups that interest you- bird watching, astrology, decoupage - and see if there are english spekaers in the group as may well find it is bilingual.
If not, @AngelaR maybe can give you some tips on setting one up!
Hi. There is Association France-Grande Bretagne in Cahors. We go to French classes there but they organise things such as: trips, meals etc throughout the year. If you Google it, you can view the website.
thanks all for your responses. We are about 40 mins north of Figeac.
(what is a ‘language café’) Dr. MarkH ?
If you don’t know L’arrosoir already, the websites below explains thing and if you’re in it’s worth a glance as a lot of other things go on there. Interesting range of drinksto, but they don’t like dogs inside - not even poodles. C’est incroyable !
No, I don’t know it Mark. I will check it out. Thanks for that
Hello Mr Faulkener/Geoff,
I too am 40 minutes north of Figeac (Sousceyrac), and was wondering the same thing as you (more or less).
I’m thinking more of a pint-in-the-snug three yorkshiremen scenario rather than hiking or whatever.
Did you get any leads?
Cheers
Richard
Hi Richard.
Nobody seemed interested - something I put down to the relatively few English speakers in this Department (although a nice guy called Mark did put me on to a good dentist!). We are in Leyme and you in Sousceyrac. A nice ‘pint in the snug’ sounds wonderful but fat chance of that. Terrou and Gorses is about half way and (although typically French) they do have bars if you would like to have a drink and see how it goes? My wife may be keen too if that works for you - an perhaps yours.
cheers

Hi Geoff,
thanks for your rapid reply.
Yes, that sounds great. I guess you know La Forge at Terrou? Perhaps, in the absence on a ‘snug’ we could consider a lunch there together?
Which Anglophones do you know in the area? Perhaps we could attempt to construct a group of people with a ‘compatible sense of humour’ (as opposed to little England whingers)? It’s up to you, what do you think? Have you met Ann & Robert who live in the village to the west of you?
My wife has also just pointed out that at the MDA in St Cere on 17 Oct there is a ‘cafe linguistique’. I think I’ll be going to that anyway, so if that appeals to you too, I might be seeing you there.
Again, thanks for getting back to me.
Regards
Richard

Hi Richard, a lunch at La Forge sounds like an excellent idea. Next week Tuesday or Wednesday would work for me (Thursday at a push).
Let me know your thoughts
