English speaking Hairdresser in Region 22

Hi Anyone know of an english speaking hairdresser in region 22 ?

If you can say ‘Bonjour, est-ce que vous parlez anglais?’ ring them up a bunch of them and you will find out.

Or just go and jump in the deep end like I did all those years ago. Took along a picture from a magazine of what I wanted done and hey presto, stayed loyal until she retired. You can learn a lot from just listening to people chatting whilst you are being done.

May be able to find a hairdresser that speaks English, but actually what you need is a haircutter that can cut hair. All the ones round us seem to churn out the same spiky French cut, or a tapered bob. Nothing else.

The (only) one in nearest village only seems to turn out middle aged ladies with that particular ‘helmet hair’ style so many of them seem to have. Not booking am going without.

Agreed - there are something like 10 hairdressers in our local town and not a single good haircut to be seen in the local population, let alone subtle colouring - it’s red or black.
I went to a couple of small salons and got what I can only describe as an old lady’s haircut both times. I now happly go to the hairdressers in the mall alongside Leclerc. All the hairdressers are young and good and each time I get a slightly different version of what I want - but that works for me.

For the first few years I used their style books and knew enough French to say “a bit like this” “a bit like that”. With covid the books disappeared so I took along a photo of me 20 years ago with a super London cut (probably Vidal Sassoon). That works.
I have a few phrases - “it’s too heavy on top” “take half off” (I don’t go very often) and show with my fingers how much. Useful to know the word for layering (dĂ©gradĂ©s) and I refuse the “soin” (costs more) and ask for them to blowdry naturally and not brushed (which is when it suddenly turns ghastly!)
Any chat with them is minimal, which for me is fine, though I do ask them if they’ve been on holiday, what they are doing for Christmas / New Year (you can tell when I usually go!).

The best salon down here since I moved has been Frank Provost but you have to stress what you want doing and then they worked their magic. Not cheap but a good cut and colour. I decided to try the local one in the next commune, a bloke and he was very good and half the price of FP. Trial and error. To the OP where abouts in 22, that was my neighbouring dept for 32 years.

And gets you a better cut. I got so friendly with my hairdresser over the years that we chatted away and she forgot each time exactly how I wanted it ‘assez court mais assez long sur les cote de brosser vers l’arriere.’ It may not have been good French but she understood well enough for it to come out just right. Until we got to chatting that is and after that it was always too short at the sides and I had to wai a bit longer for my ‘duck’s arse’.*

*DA, Ducks Anatomy, ask someone old enough to remember the '50s  :joy:

Terrifying. (and no I’m not (quite) old enough to remember the 50s)

Not an issue for me. I even have a bus stop named after me.

We are a very hairy family on both sides, no bald ones at all. OH had hair more than halfway down his back when I first met him and was glad of it later on in cold weather.

You didn’t meet him walking in a Canadian forest by any chance, did you?

I went and had my annual 25cm chopped off my hair yesterday, it’s only down to my shoulder blades now. Feels weird.

I never did go for the elephant roll like that, but the sides are about right. Like the velvet collar on his, no doubt, drape jacket though. :joy:

I missed out on the full Ted look, the nearest I got was a pair of crepe soled brown suede boots.

I had that done last year, had got used to it hanging longer down past my armpits and used tomake the grandson laugh when I pulled it down and said I was a chimpanzee in disguise. Think it was a bit more than 23cm in the end that came off, hope they used it for something like wigs for children etc.
