Entire Spotify music library leaked

Whoops… Just saw that the entire music catalogue, the associated meta data and users’ listening data has been leaked, and it’s gradually being shared via the Anna’s Archive site :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

The music itself isn’t the most interesting part of this leak, imo. It’s the sheer size of their catalogue, plus just how many listens artists other than the biggest of the big artists have mustered.

Spotify has around 256 million tracks.

≥70% of songs are ones almost no one ever listens to (stream count < 1000).

We can also estimate that the top three songs (as of writing) have a higher total stream count than the bottom 20-100 million songs combined:

I don’t, unfortunately, have a spare 300TB of data so shall not be downloading my own personal copy

PS - I don’t condone hacking companies and exfiltrating their data… but, then again, this is Spotify we’re talking about.

Me neither

But if one were to do it, it would take nearly four weeks to do so (about 27 days, 18 hours and 40 minutes) even if you have a 1Gbps internet connection :open_mouth:

My Livebox is guaranteed to reboot at least a couple of times in a month
