Escape to the Chateau review: an inspiring fairytale about crumbling walls

Lucky you!

Is it just me or is anyone else a smidge fed up with the Strawbridges now? We seem to be on about the 100th series of this fly-on-the-wall view of DIY royalty.

Dick is obviously a brico god, putting mere mortals to shame with yet another huge project in the castle or its outbuildings and Angel’s (Angela in reality?) habit of casually dropping into the conversation that she’s done a bespoke design for some wallpaper is, I am sure, wonderful for her parents but outside the skill set of most people.

But, honestly, you only need to have watched one series of this to have watched them all. Do we really need more?

See the viewing figures! (and I have no idea if it is popular or not but if plenty of people watching it you can bet there will be another season!

I have to re watch the steam room build but was that using hydrofuge placo on the walls? Also Steve tiled it with horizontal tile adhesive strokes which in any wet environment should be vertical. Without insulation condensation will get behind the tile and mold will grow quickly. That will be a nasty mess later.

Didn’t look that closely to be honest.

Occupational hazzard

I often think that about the work that he does. He cuts corners or does things on the cheap and, although it can make for entertaining TV for a few minutes, it’s not a long term solution and will eventually need replacing.

Perhaps the first Madame Strawbridge and her kids are not so fulsome in their praise?

Oh, miaou

I’ve never seen the programme but I read a comment on imdb : “All this Britishness, and no French people?

They weren’t watching properly. The Strawbridges employ French staff. They visit French markets. They’ve bought crazy stuff on LBC and the like. They hire heavyweight equipment from French companies. They did a Christmas party for the local school children and their parents.
