EU customs duty changes 1st July

Just a reminder that from the 1st of July the EU will impose a 3€ import duty on low value goods (< 150€ - above that duty already applies) coming into the EU.

The charge will apply once per commodity code - so if you buy three identical items in a shipment there will be an additional 3€ to pay, if you buy three different items in one shipment it will be 9€. Oh and the 3€ charge is itself subject to VAT, AIUI.

How very Trumpian!

It’s not a tariff. There has been a long-standing exception for low value goods from duty, which is now being removed.

Huh? I’m sure that if I read that over and again that it’ll make sense eventually. Perhaps after another coffee. Or not bother as I don’t buy stuff from outside the EU anyway, rarely even outside France in fact. Still, nice to be aware that there’s something to be aware of… at the risk of sounding all Rumsfeld-esque.

I’m not sure there’s a difference to the person paying the bill between a tariff and a duty. Re Trump.

No, I suspect that there isn’t.

Worse, of course, if the courier gets to collect the duty they wll no doubt slap a 20€ “processing charge” on top :rage:

He’ll get no money out of me then because, Like @marko I buy nothing other then electronic books from outside the EU. Despite being rejected for continued EU citizenship after Brexit, I remain faithful to my loyalties here.

Just a thought, but can you buy Kindle books in English from Amazon fr I wonder?

Probably, I would have thought, but you are right - the “new” duty only applies to physical goods.

But I’m wondering who the “he” you refer to is?

I’m happily running two Amazon accounts, FR and UK, so it’s a bit academic. I have seen ebooks in English on the FR site, but I usually just use the UK part.

I buy regularly from Amazon France, English crossword puzzle books like the Mail, Guardian, Sun and Telegraph newspaper versions and never paid any delivery charges as always go to the €35 limit for free delivery

The courier who I was told might collect the duty and add his own bit. For a minute I thought you were talking about Guy Verhofstadt, who I would vote for if I could, as he is the chap who advocated EU citizenship continuance for the faithful who had been disenfranchised.

Yes, me too, but I only buy Kindle books from the UK site. I’ll have a look at what is on offer in fr later. In a rush now, got to go His, and My, cabillau awaits at the weekly market.

The poor guy who drops it off won’t benefit but the courier companies will lap up the opportunity to fleece people, I have no doubt.

Yes, he always seemed a decent chap.

Yes..

Classic car enthusiast too, if I remember correctly.

Yes I think so.
