EV - buy or wait?

I am behind the times in almost everything. I think I got it right in the spreadsheet.

The advantage of a spreadsheet is that you can do exactly that. In your proposed case it is still cheaper to get an EV but only just.

Gemini came up with this answer but suggested a price comparison web site.

Approximate Off-Peak Electricity Cost in the UK

Disclaimer: This is a very rough estimate and actual costs can vary significantly.

As of 2023, a very approximate figure for off-peak electricity in the UK would be around 15-20 pence per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

Please keep in mind that:

  • This is a general estimate. Actual prices can vary widely depending on your energy supplier, tariff, and location.
  • Energy prices have been fluctuating. It’s possible that costs have changed since then.

Choosing a random supplier, the cheapest Scottish Power standard tariff seems to be 27.21p. though you’d be mad to be on that tariff with an EV. Octopus energy do an EV tariff that’s as low as 7p per kWh

Jaguar is committed.

It will be a month of Sundays before I can afford a Jag.

I had a neighbour yesterday asking questions about my car (in a rather negative way) such as what the price was, what do I do when the battery goes flat. Then he asked me if I have to have the engine running for the heating and air con to work. [face palm emoji]

He obviously had a detailed knowledge of the advantages of his ICE.

I’m sure they’ll be pricy, but I was interested in the fact that they are pulling the plug (:joy:) on the ICE range.

Wont that cause a meltdown?

Super ugly!

Don’t understand why Jaguar would want their new model to look like a shotgun marriage between a luxury saloon and an American pick-up truck.

The plate should be JA 76 AAARGH

Volvo and Mercedes already have an “EV only” policy within the next 5 years. Perhaps this new announcement will start a “who will pit first” race where other marques announce their targets to avoid the undercut.

It does not bode well for the Crit’Air thread

Sadly Jaguar= Tata of India, for quite some time now.

For a vehicle that doesnt require a radiator grill that is very ugly, did they hire the sacked BMW designer?

I love my grill :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Not my car BTW.

That same designer has been at work with Ford too, they have a Build Your Disaster clone car - saw it parked outside the local dealership. Probably the Explorer, but it might have been the new Crapi.

Too many Warner Bros cartoons as a kid?

Good man but the number of clean air driving zones in Europe are programmed to increase from 300+ today to 500+ by end of next year. If everyone switches to EVs that will have been a complete waste of time and effort.

Very little waste I think Mik, and being able to manage the different levels of ICE polluting cars will still be useful.
