If they’re ground mounted, then EDF cannot buy your surplus electricity. It’s daft I think, but thems the rules.

No, I haven’t played rugby since school where I was a good scrum half and occasional winger and played for the school. Unfortunately, knee problems put paid to me taking it any further. I played volleyball for the school as well, which is where I picked up the knee problems rather than playing rugby.

Presumably because the electricity gets damp and doesn’t work as efficiently? :wink:

Obviously I have to conceed some points :face_with_hand_over_mouth: hybrid engines are just engines, albeit a bit smaller coupled to clever electronics and of course an electric motor.
Stop start is probably the latest idea the ICE have taken on, mainly driven by regulations more than the innovations.

I would say Billy’s memory is pretty good as most of those “innovations” are pretty old now. :smiling_face:

Thinking of replacing my electric car with a fossil fuel car and have some questions?:thinking:

I have heard that petrol cars can not refuel at home while you sleep? How often do you have to refill elsewhere? Will there be a solution for refuelling at home?

Which parts will I need to service and how often? The car salesman mentioned oil in the engine and timing belts that need replacing and a box with gears in it. What is this? How much will this service oil change cost and how often – and what happens to the old oil. Also apparently these petrol type cars generally stop on the brakes alone – so the brakes wear out much faster – how long will they last compared to my current car which lasts over 100k miles?

Do I get fuel back when I slow down or drive downhill?

The car I test drove seemed to have a delay from the time I pressed the accelerator pedal until it began to accelerate. Is that normal in petrol cars?

We currently pay about 1.2p per mile to drive our electric car. I have heard that petrol can cost up to 8 times as much. Is this true?

I have been told that these internal combustion engines make a noise when you start them – so early starts can wake people up, and driving a lot of internal combustion engine cars in towns makes towns noisy.

what is the drop in range in cold weather, I’ve been told a car that does 45mpg can drop to 37 mpg in winter – just curious on that one.

a friend told me that the exhausts wear out – is that true, and people steal them for the rare material used in them

I was also told – that the exhaust gas isn’t good for you – and if you leave the car running in a confined space – like a garage – you will die – surly that isn’t true is it.

next door told me – these petrol cars – carry around 40 to 60 litres of highly flammable liquid which is pumped into a steel cylinder, and its then exploded to generate expanding gas to move a piston, and turn linear motion into rotary motion. Why would anyone want thousands of explosions happening within a few feet of where your sitting.

a guy at work told me – he has a petrol car, and it leaks oil. When he parks it – surely that’s not right is it – leaving dirty marks on the floor and contaminating the environment so directly. How long before this happens if I change.

my dad told me – if you buy a diesel car – the hand pump smells very bad, and you have to wear special gloves to stop your hand smelling, and if you spill it on your clothes it terrible.

is it true – the petrol and diesel is so dangerous, that you can only buy the fuel at a special filling station, and not anywhere (hotels/Car parks/Home/Work)

while technology is advancing, will I ever be able to refuel my internal combustion car for free using only the sun ?

All very true, but you forgot to mention the halo that you don’t have to have hovering over your head all the time you drive a diesel car. :wink: :joy:

That’s true. There will always be someone who doesn’t give a toss about other peoples health, the environment or the the current climate ctastrophe.

"someone "? I might be reading the wrong figures …but as I understand it those someone that I have read about seem to far outweigh those using electricky and and their cars cost less than half as much as those using rare eath minerials which mostly come from China

In terms of ownership this is currently true.

However, I’m fairly sure that many of those ICE car owners do give a proverbial toss about other people’s health etc.

I think your pricing is a little out of date Oldetc. Even current list prices do not show 100% difference in price between similar ICE and EV models. That is before you factor in all the other significant savings of using an EV. But list price aside, how do you factor in the cost of killing and hospitalising other people with exhaust fumes, destroying land and marine sites when drilling for oil and the pollution caused refining it and getting to a service station and then the damage caused by climate change?

And just for the record and sake of accuracy my EV battery consists of Nickel and Copper from Indonesia, Lithium from Chile, and Cobalt from the DRC

Just because EV owners are in the minority at the moment does not make them wrong.

I accept each individual’s contribution is pretty small on the scale of things but I am afraid I can’t just sit quiet and say “its nothing to do with me guv.”

They have been making ICE vehicles a lot longer so costs do come down with all the practice they have had. As to costing less than half, you are joking when you compare apples to apples so to speak. All new cars are expensive but EV’ s are just a bit more at the moment depending on the marque. Then the savings with the EV begin over ICE and after only a couple of years cost would be equal then its saving saving saving.

I suppose at the end of the day it really does come down to cost, a great many ordinary people can not afford to buy a new electric car , although it has to be said that the sales of second hand EVs is up by 96 % .and whilst I agree with some of the points you have made it is not correct to depict EV as the magic method to save the planet Many of the larger SUVs (both ICE and EVs do not fit into excisting parking bays ,no one can magic up extra land in city streets to accommodate these vehicle’s, very many EV owners do not have the facility to charge their vehicle ! which will slow their uptake , although great many of the new EV SUV`s are a lot heavy than standard ICE cars it is also noticeable that many of the EV are Hybrid SUV models which actually emit 20% more carbon than battery cars,(source UK Energy Research Centre ) ( 1.8 million SUV’s sold as against 47,000 battery electric) so it is a uphill battle These cars are too heavy for many multi stored car parks , and a point to take into consideration is commercial vehicles the gross weight of a electric has had to be increased to 4.25 tonnes whereas a ICE van is 3.5ton, to EV van carries around 20 to 25 % less cargo .

No you are wrong GVW was increased this year as commercial vans in EV form weigh a great deal more than ICE and the source that you quote Completely agrees with what I said, please do not turn this in to a argument, disagreements are fine read the source you quoted.
