EV - buy or wait?

Tesla at it again with innovation, no rare earth magnets = no reliance on China.

Well I’m now rethinking about the leasing social which has reopened. A bit better than last year at 15,000 km / year. Our car pool has grown to 4 kids (all almost adult size!) And I’m at 2 lycée so I’m doing 100km / day just on school / work. Amazingly one of the cheapest options is the Opel Frontera which will fit kids and all the bags!

If you can qualify for social leasing I’d definitely go that route. I don’t think you’ll lose as tech on things like range, and new vehicles will probably become proportionally much better and more choice in the 3-odd years of lease. If you didn’t have to be working to qualify - ie they’ve deliberately excluded retired people which does make aense sadly - I’d be there like a shot.

So I’m going to finish getting my dossier for the social leasing together tonight and print a few copies. Tomorrow between classes I’m going to try to see the dealers and see who has what left. Apparently Peugeot has sold out entirely of thier offerings First choice is the Frontera, then Aircross, then Grande Panda, then Jeep Avenger.

My decision cemented by deisel price at Intermarche this morning. €2.369 :thinking::thinking:. Out of interest hubby looked up elsewhere:
1.80 in Spain. Do you ever get the feeling you’re being cheated?
1.48 gbp in uk
1.60 in Rome!

I do up to 100km a day just on work / school runs!!!

That sounds perfect for charging with a granny lead overnight on cheap electricity. You should get maximum benefit from an EV compared to ICE.

The first three are all the same car, so pick whichever takes your fancy :slightly_smiling_face: The Jeep too could be on the same platform, but I’m too lazy to look :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I think it will be a case of what’s left!!! The Frontera I think is slightly larger, and its the cheapest! It has a screen where some if the others only have a start price with a phone holder! I like the Jeep but 40-50€ ,/ month more which adds up over 3 years for something I’ll be handing back!

Probably because some remember the ICE frontera which was a pile.

Oh I’m not sure how I missed it but I can get the Kia EV 2 for in between the price of the others and the Jeep so that has to be added to the list.

Done most of my dossier, need to get my principle to sign a paper and photocopy my drivers licence (REALLY hoping they don’t have a hissy fit about my paper UK licence :face_with_peeking_eye:).

I love ours

This is a year old so there may be more now, but yes, you can tow with an EV!

So today between my 2 schools working day I went on my fact finding mission.

First stop Opel, lovely young salesman, yes can still order one (very quickly) but long wait until Jan/Feb, yes its the same model as the one in the showroom (only one version). He was with another couple so gave me his card and asked me to make an appointment to have a proper talk about it all. Perfect as wanted to get to the others before they shut.

Next stop Citroen to see about the C3 Aircross. Yes can order, but only the most expensive option, higher spec and bigger battery, delivery December or January. But €196 / month, so much more than the €114 model I wanted (apparently they stopped that price anyway in August ). Only delivered with the charger for fast charging so €250 extra for a home charger (is this expensive? Are they cheaper elsewhere?). Then another €700 for carte grise and their admin fees. So only need to find 950€ up front . Will be so interesting to see what Opel wants! They also have Fiat and Jeep at the same place. No fiat left. No Jeeps either, apparently they only had 60 for the whole country!!!

It was 11.55 by the time I got out so decided to call Kia, glad I did as no more, they closed the offer 31/08. I’m a bit annoyed they brought the whole thing forward by 6 weeks this year.

So I have a meeting with the Opel guy at 11.15 tomorrow, will update!
