Facial Recognition Cameras - Yet Another Reason Not To Go Back To UK

This was totally a lawful trial Helen and overseen by the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, not good enough for you?

There were some really big signs around stating what was going on , the time to worry is when there isn’t any notification

I’d have probably used a few choice words myself and not limited to ā€˜foxtrot oscar’…but still not a crime…x

It is a crime Helen to swear and be abusive in a public place hence Public Order Act. It is NOTHING to do with the trial being carried out

Hey Tim…I hope I’m not coming across as ā€œanti-policeā€ cos I’m not per se…and in actual fact have a family member…long since retired…who was a seargant when community policing was just that…all about the community…x

No one is saying he committed a serious crime Helen, he was abusive to a police officer (which he admits) and was dealt with accordingly, what is the problem?

I’m posting This link for the video content only before there is a surge of Daily Fail/Wail comments. It doesn’t look to me like a serious or disorderly confrontation and as we don’t live in a police state I think we have the right to question the police. My son is a serving police officer with GMP so I certainly do not condone abuse of officers or anyone else, indeed my son faces much much worse than this on a quiet shift, but in this instance it seems a serious overreaction by the police. How many officers have surrounded this man? Even someone who witnessed it questioned what they were doing and why. Final post on this subject

The person who questioned what they were doing was the monitor from Big Brother Watch not some random member of the public

The immediate problem is the over the top police response to what was effectively just a trial…I have personal experience of an OTT police response so I do know it happens and in that space (cell) there is no one to hear you scream…x

One of my daughters used to volunteer for women’s aid…they are totally funded by donations now…the problem there is either a lack of police response until a woman is actually harmed by the perpetrator or in one case a completely OTT police response to a mother who was arrested by a swat team of armed police over a malicious allegation…24 hours in a cell and 18 months before that one mother was able to clear her name…

Another problem is where this ā€œtechnologyā€ is potentially ultimately leading humanity…the total control of citizens by social crediting…the roll out of 5g and the IOT…what’s going on with Hauwei…

I used to but I got a little fed up with how a cat video would get thousands of shares compared to how anyone sharing human rights abuse got very little attention…

Lol…I do like cats…but it’s got ridiculous now…x

Helen, people share more animal videos because they are , like me, fed up with having rights this and rights that, equality here and there and all the other bitchings shoved in our faces and rammed down our necks at the slightest opportunity.

I have not heard that.
We need to back people who are prepared to stand up against mass surveillance.
I have always understood that, like word of mouth being the best advertisement, targeted operations bring about the best results.

The person was captioned on the video Poppy uploaded. I would imagine that when /If it is up and running it will be used on targeted operations as the cost will be prohibitive for routine use
A s we have only seen a short clip it is hard to get context as to why so many officers were involved ,It maybe that only one approached him at first then when he became gobby others backed him up. Given knife crime levels this would make sense
Oh and Jane please don’t tell me who I need to back

I have no strong opinion either way, but this https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/may/16/where-everybody-knows-your-face-woody-harrelson-photo-used-to-spot-thief is worrying.

I would also be interested in what would have happened if the guy in Romford had simply said ā€œNo thanksā€¦ā€ and walked off. Was he fined for ignoring the police’s request or for the abuse?

He was given a fixed penalty for the abuse. Had he stayed calm and explained his reasons chances are he would have been allowed on his way
