Films for hot weather

I watched (again, but more carefully) Vivement Dimanche yesterday, and I’m partway through La Collectionneuse today.

I particularly appreciated that there was a lot of rain in Vivement Dimanche.

Conversely one could have some desert movies, for instance, in chronological order;-

Legend of the Lost (1957) John Wayne and Sophia Loren (!) ostensibly lost in the middle of the Sahara, but filmed at Leptis Magna on the Libyan shores of the Mediterranean.

The Passenger (1975) dir Antonioni, starring a young(ish) Jack Nicholson as a journo in war-torn Chad.

The Sheltering Sky, (1990) Bertolucci’s take on Paul Bowles novel about what can go (very badly) wrong on a relationship reset vacation.

I refuse to watch that during the winter.. but I reckon it will be just right for today… :+1: I’ll mention it to OH (he’s in charge of the dvd’s)

Funnily enough it’s been on twice lately on my expat streaming channels - once on Sony Movies and the other time on RTE1. Looking at it now, those cardboard icebergs and false snow looks really naff but it was many moons ago. One film I can’t watch again is 6 Below about the pack of husky sled dogs left behind to fend for themselves when unexpected bad weather hits the Antarctic and their owner (the late Paul Walker) trying for months to get back down there and find them. I cried buckets

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich

I saw it in a modern cinema and was wearing a full length warm jersey dress and I was cold!

Tom Courtnay at his best in a Soviet gulag.

Hot tub time machine :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

OH has suggested that film, but I have to be “in the mood” for Omar and his dark eyes… and it is rather long… more than 3 hours… I’ll be asleep.

Or just “The Thing”. (The Kurt Russell one)

There was another remake in 2011 as well. The original is the best though.

I know it’s not a film but the series ‘Life Below Zero’ would cool things down a bit!
