Is there any source of information which tells you (a) where the doctors are in your area and (b) which are most likely to take on patients?
I have no idea of an “official” source… but our Mairie is a font of information.
Perhaps because we are a small commune and out in the sticks… they seem to know what’s going-on and are keen to help their residents…
I have personal experience of their “going that extra mile” to find a Doc for a new Brit in dire need…
Have you tried asking someone at yours…???
No - but that’s a great idea - thanks!
You can also contact the coordinating body…
That’s interesting - if you can’t find an MT, they offer tele-consultations. Thanks
Have you tried contacting the doctors directly? that sometimes helps. Yellow pages or telephone book, even Google.
And maybe look for a group practice. That’s the way it’s going round us and it’s easier for a group of doctors to take on more patients. Single practices with the doctor on their own they can just literally get to the point where they can’t take any more.
Not precisely the same question, as for urgent consultations rather than signing up with a MT, but thought appropriate to add to this thread. I’ve never seen this link before about how to get a consultation urgently.
I understand - from a French pharmacist friend - that a doctor had to provide me a prescription (for, in my case, BP pills) when I’d run out of what I’d brought.
We had tried various cabinets, but not got past the receptionists.
For us, this was a way into getting on an MT list. He prescribed the medicine and then talked about “when” he reviewed it in 6 months. Madame also needed a repeat prescription, and asked the doctor if we could name him for our CVs.
My strong impression - there and at the dentist, where we booked a checkup and were told we were on the list thereafter - is that it is the medical professional who makes the decision, after s/he has met you.
So my original question may have been based on how things work in the UK.
Thank you! Very useful to keep handy and hope never to need. ![]()
I thought Ameli had one, when I was looking for a GP, but (1) I don’t remember where in their site it was, and (2) it turned out to be wrong anyway, when I attempted to contact a few alleged to be available, only to be told to my face that they weren’t taking on new patients.
I think so. Our MT told us that she didn’t normally take on Brits as her English wasn’t great and she felt it was unsafe, medically. However, our French apparently passed muster (where’s the Phew emoji?)
You can try going online and searching Doctolib in your area. You may find some with open appointments. Some will say , flat out- no new patients. You can even search for English speaking if desired.
If you do go that route, remember to try maiia and the third one beginning with a K. Our local doctors are all on Maiia
Thank you @JaneJones - I never remember that one as it’s not much used here. I think it’s popular in Brittany though.
