I am in the process of digging out the floor of our basement and the builder has asked me what depth of floor insulation I want installing. The quote for the UFH has 56mm TMS MF SI but I note that on the EFISOL website it recommends for RT2012 a thickness of 80mm.
There will be soil, concrete dalle, then the insulation, then the underfloor heating in a liquid screed and then finished with tiles.
A local plumber said he would recommend 100mm as it's the basement...so now I am confused.com
In order for insulation to work it must trap air so dense though it maybe in thermal terms I doubt it's equivalent to 100mm. I have some very dense (solid) polystyrene that is very strong but pretty useless as as insulation. Unless it uses a different gas or had an additive in it it's equivalent to 83mm of polystyrene, Sorry but would be interested in where you obtained it, extruded of expanded polystyrene?
We have 1 pack (10sqm) of floor insulation surplus to requirements. It is 83mm very dense polystyrene - equivalent to 100mm we were told. Please pm me if you’d like to have further info.
While 80 mm is enough it depends on what the room is being used for.Main living accommodation will benefit from a little extra. My floors have 150 mm covered by the usual toppings. The underfloor heat loses less into the subsoil that way. I was just considering the cost of heating in the future juxtaposed against the cost of installation .
The establishment is called Phil'Decor, 116 Route de Bordeaux, 24430 Marsac sur L'isle, 06 78 23 45 68. Left hand side as you drive towards Perigueux. In the yard are statues and tiles, you go in and behind a garden mower place to get there. All sizes of sheets, some foil backed, half price! We did 3 hr return trips to get ours from there. If you go to my blog: www.lebijou2011.wordpress.com you will see the sheets with the geothermal pipes on top and the liquid screed being poured on.
