When will the football authorities wake up to the fact that the so called “Golden Game” is psychologically flawed? Fan violence linked to football matches has been a problem for decades. What happened yesterday was yet another sign that something must be done. I have seen comments from experts who say that the root cause is that the game is inherently frustrating with the very low scores. Losing a game 1-0 after 90 minutes of frustration is very different from being defeated 65-30. The answer is simple. Change the rules and make it a higher scoring game. But no. Much better have fans fighting at the peage and setting fire to a bus.
Well known that the two sides would end up fighting each other. Fans are total enemies of each other’s teams. Felt sorry for the bus drivers trying to get out of the way with their vehicles.
France has a serious football hooliganism problem which the government is struggling to control, the latest idea is banning away fans to some games but that wasn’t possible for yesterday’s cup final.
