I have the onerous task of filling out the 2025 tax declaration online. I cannot access 2042 has anyone any ideas where I have gone wrong. I have double checked all the information ticked and I do not seem to have made a mistake. My 3916 is fine and dandy but of course I have filled out 2042NR now in error.

Sorry, I can’t think why the system would think you’re non-resident (NR) if all the information you’ve given at the start of the process (French address etc) is correct.
Is there a fresh pair of eyes you could ask to check over what you’ve put?
If you really can’t untick 2042NR in the list of appendices, I would print off 3916 and 2042 on paper (if that’s all you need, no 2047?) and hand in a paper declaration explaining you weren’t able to do an online one.
Thank you so much for that reply I was thinking of doing precisely that and will try to find 2042 on the Internet and print it out and complete it. I will printscreen on the 3916 and print that as well.
Remember it seems best to do 2047 forms first as bits of them auto-load upwards into the 2042 top level one?
Thanks to all who replied. I must sit here with my head hung low and say it was operator error. I have made a note of the error I made in my diary (I buy the same wonderful diary each year as it has a page a day) so that I will not do that again. It only took me 7 hours to figure out what I had done wrong damn and blast.
