Sorry for the confusion Nigel… my bad (hurried) explanation.
Grosjean always seems to be a magnet for incidents.
IIRC Jane uses an old gas guzzling Mercedes diesel burner which she suggested is cleaner than the modern electric vehicles spawned by considerable developments in design in investments by the likes of Mercedes.
Maybe Covid restrictions this year have proved a point that the sport can survive quite well by remaining within Europe
I think it was Räikkönen who was rejoining to the left - but it looked a good way in front of Grosjean so the best thing to do would have been to steer left and come off the gas to make room.
Of course it is very easy to do a post-hoc armchair analysis of these things - rather harder when travelling in a close pack of cars at 150mph+
Possibly, I gather the rear view is pretty crap on a F1 car.
I knew you would say that.
Why do they have to travel all over the world?
The same goes for all sport, including my beloved horse racing?
I own a Mercedes and I can tell you now that the car which was registered in 2003 is a much better car than all the new ones with their fancy gismos.
Also it was before certain manufacturers conned purchasers regarding emissions.
You can say the same for space. They say that charity begins at home, but looking after our planet and the people living on it now is where we should be investing all that money.
Your argument does not hold water.
Ok so where do you stand on the Olympics, World Cup ,Commonwealth Games etc
She means every sport from F1 to the Olympics, Le Tour you name it.
Sorry @tim17 I edited my post because I read Janes again, but your response still stands
So you really believe that the lives of countless millions should just be ‘wiped out’, seriously?
might be an idea to apply the brakes… just a little… before there is a “verbal” crash…
the sun is shining (here, anyway…) and if we are well enough to be prattling on the forum… that’s something to be grateful for… … and breathe… and relax…
Many other forms of employment have had to change and I see no reason to exempt motor sport or other forms of sport from changing.
We all need to live simpler lives and this applies to music and the arts too.
Ballet and opera is now streamed to cinemas as the performance is happening, so people living all over the world can see and hear wonderful performers without the whole circus of taking orchestras and and ballet companies on costly and environmentally damaging trips.
So I take it you refuse guests in your gitesthat live beyond a certain distance?
So in Jane’s new environmentally world they’ll only be ‘virtual’ music and arts, no world sport and no world travel for anyone except as Eddie has just suggested visitors to Jane’s gite providing of course their carbon footprint is minimal, where do I sign up?
Well at least the USA have got something right, they have a rounders game they call the world series but it only takes place in America
You obviously think that there would be no other employment for creative designers and engineers.
I think that people would be beating a path to their door, unlike coal miners who are losing their jobs and having to retrain to find work, if there is any in their area.
Both Tim and Eddie are taking this to an extreme .
Of course there will still be travel, but of a much more simple kind and all these events which need continual travel to the other side of the world will gradually fade out.
I dont see that, times are changing electric cars will be the norm in a few years so all the arguments become moot points. Aviation looking hard into electric propulsion to. No point in worrying too much now, change is coming.
Keep this civilised please guys.
Thanks.
(And personally, whether one likes it or not, I believe that change is coming and people will look back on this era and say ‘what, they flew people around the world to…’)
And that will include holidaymakers too.
Jane, the job losses I’m referring to are the low paid ones that are essential for the running of any global event. In 2024 the Olympics are coming to Paris which will be a jobs boost all over France as events are held in several cities. You want to do away with events such as this which will mean a huge increase in unemployment worldwide, I don’t think you appreciate the sheer volume of music, sport and cultural events that take place annually all over the world which provides massive employment opportunities not just for the participants and event staff but also in the wider economy.
The curious thing in my mind - which I am sure will be the subject of very detailed examination by the FIA - is how did Romain manage to burn his hands?
I thought that the gloves they use are fire-resistent
Kevlar ® is inherently flame resistant —protecting against thermal hazards up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, Kevlar ® fibers won’t melt, drip or support combustion.
It was also mentioned that the visor on his helmet showed sign of melting - terrifying! Poor Nikki Lauder had a recent lung transplant before he sadly died as a result of inhaling the toxic mix from the fire which engulfed him all those years ago
The grid will be very concerned about this…
Flame resistance is fine but the temperature in the fire would probably have overwhelmed the protection offered by the gloves
