I was using 3 French forums regularly and have now totally given up on all but here!! The one that closed was quite good but the new format was unbearable! The other one I used is much more American and just got fed up of the squabbles. One poster was particularly disruptive!
I’ve owned a forum (cloth nappies ) for over 15 years, it is now all but) dead due purely to nastiness . (and FB) It is such a shame as it was a great way to get lots of environmental messages out, at one point we were regularly in the UK press and everything then all it took were a few nasty people, a fb group and boom! We still have it open as don’t want to loose all the years of awesome info (all the fb groups are of course non searchable!). My reviews format and questions were stolen literally word for word by an ex member and is now on a large multinational (US originally) UK parenting site. Forums that are searchable, full of good info and decent people are rarer and rarer and a lot of that is down to FB. Members need to stick together and be nice to keep such valuable resources.
Just today after days of searching the internet/forums dh found the answer to our car issue on an old thread by a Ukrainian guy (we sent hope that he is still alive). Instead if having to get to loads of different, difficult parts and pipes he sent us to a part and sure enough an awesomely blocked, black, horrible thing is now shiny and new looking ready to be refitted tomorrow.
Forums can be amazing places, like here, full of knowledge, compassion, friendship and hope. Just take the time to be all those things, every member, and hopefully we will survive not just France but FB and the internet!!!
Thanks @cat and @james I know how tough it is as I’ve said before you guys are great and I have your backs.
As I deliberately kept that, along with all other important details of identification, secret, I’ll leave it to @cat or @james to decide if it is relevant Karen. If it is ok with them, I will answer you.
I think the gender of your ‘nemesis’ should remain secret as should any further hints as to who the person could be, I’ve no doubt that some already have a fair idea of who it is as many here are members elsewhere.
You shouldn’t have to take any crap off people but sadly there are many who actually enjoy being unpleasant which to me is a sign something is missing in their lives.
@cat@tim17 I so agree - we don’t need to know anymore. If @David_Spardo and @KarenLot wish to talk further about this, please do so “off line” in a PM. Thanks.
Settled then, no clues. I only started this thread because my, rather foolish perhaps, post in the Cheerful News thread produced some, to me, unexpected results and I thought a bit of explanation was necessary, but away from there.
As to coats, my battered and ripped old Mercedes (lorry can’t afford such cars) jacket will be donned in half an hour or so to take Jules the dog a walk in the woods. The drizzle should have stopped by then.
When guys are on the mattresses they’re not out earning. It’s just business.

Personally, I would not like to see that person “named and shamed” on a public forum.
Surely, we all know what it is like to be on the receiving end… ???
I am aware that even someone I might consider to be an “awful/horrible” person, can be hurt themselves… and I would not want to inflict hurt on someone although others might consider that person “fair-game” because of their actions/words against others.
It’s not easy to bite one’s tongue. but I feel it is better than descending to the same depths as the “awful/horrible” person.
Sorry, if this is a bit fuddled, I’m trying to explain why I normally turn the other cheek…
and it’s not easy… sometimes I do let rip, but not on an open forum.
and of course, we all remember our “absent friend” who was driven off SF by threats of reporting him to his employer when all he did was provide very good and lucid points of view - shameful
Thankfully, that is a rare occurrence in this place but worthwhile remembering that the actions of the Team were swift and effective in tidying up loose ends on personal online security.
