Free alternative to Winzip? Advice please

For years somehow I’ve managed to use Winzip without paying but it’s now grumping at me. So I’m wondering if there is an alternative. Does anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks.

a quick Google came up with this…

Personally, I don’t use any archiving software like winzip… cheaper/free online cloud resources and USB drives make it easier to keep files in their native format and reduce reliance on 3rd party options.

Another vote for 7Zip.

But if you are zipping files to email, consider using https://wetransfer.com to transfer large files.

I also use 7-zip.
Another bonus is that its a portable app, so can run off a UBS stick.

Can I also add an endorsement for 7Zip? I’ve used it for years both professionally and personally and think it’s good

But that’s why I need winzip I thought. I’m running a photographic competition at our local club and now getting about 12 club members a month sending me their photos which I then need to unzip.

7-zip, like everyone else! I can’t remember why I started using it but it’s been great.

Bit late, but 7Zip is as good as anything out there.

FYI 7Zip is Windows-only - for those on Macs, check out Archive Utility (available on the App Store) which although not free costs a measly $2.99 :slightly_smiling_face:

Archive Utility

and different solutions for Linux, of course
