French Car Insurance, UK Reg Car

This Y-T video popped up in my feed.
UK reg car, French Insurance, on UK roads.

Video appears to be one month old. I looked on Essex Police Y-T account but see nothing more.

Unavailable in my country, according to YT. If it is geoblocked, what’s the point?

Sorry…I don’t know where everyone is, nor availability of the video across all areas.

The video shows a UK man driving a UK reg car in the UK. He is pulled by a M/C cop. He claims to be living in France and produces a French Insurance Certificate. But because it is a UK reg car in the UK, and the UK Motor Insurance Bureau does not have that French company registered the insurance is invalid in the UK.
I guess it is a legit French company, and that vthe insurance is valid for a temp period in France, but is not valid in the UK.
He seemed to believe he was all legal.
Vehicle seized. Driver fined.

A heads up on dangers of mixing up countries with reg/insurance/licence etc.
All in the same country, is OK, but mixing it up is tricky.

Oh, gosh. I was using a VPN set to UK, as said not available in France, sorry.

Thanks for the transcript  Curious that it should be blocked when attempting to view from France though. One would have thought it would be in the police force’s interest to have it widely available.

I was stopped in the early hours years ago in Cornwall after delivering a dog. At first they accused me of speeding but then realised that a car had sped past me under the bridge they were sitting on. The next thing was my French licence. This is not valid in England he said, if you drive in England, even though it is a French reg car you must have an English licence. What? So you want all the French tourists who come for a couple of weeks to exchange their licences and then back again when they go home? I could almost hear the penny drop in his poor underpowered brain. I left with no charge, but it was 45 minutes in the rain I will never get back. At least he was in the rain, I stayed in the ice warm car,

In the video the Police also inform the driver that by making a call to an insurance company of his choice he could arrange for 48hrs insurance and just drive away legally. He declined, and allowed the vehicle to be seized.

I have (long story short) used short term car insurance in the UK. Very useful for short term use of a friend or relative’s car etc.

Can’t play it even with VPN on.

If I want to drive when in UK it is the owner of the car that extends their insurance to cover me. Usually just a phone call and email with my french licence.

It’s worth watching, if only to get tips on how not to respond to reasonable questions and appear like a plonker.
