good grief David… is there a French person who can step in, phone people (like your Doc) and get this bettr organized for you.
A prescription from your Doc shouldn’t be difficult… but I suspect your Doc is thinking A&E will/should see her straight away.
Just wondering if there is a nearer A&E for you to go to ??? any of them will do… it’s a question of whichever place is easier for you and your wife.
I do suspect that if she thinks that it is fractured that being at the hospital is going to be the best way for her to be X-rayed and treated all at one place. As Stella asked is there not an A and E closer to you? Nontron? Although all the specialists are at Perigueux so in some ways better to go straight there. I wish I was a bit closer I’d offer come and drive you both!
No it wasn’t Tory, we have been there before on more than one occasion. I think it was up the hill above the CH and down a little dead end street on the right, but not sure.
It was a little dead end street but exactly where, dunno.
Yes @Stella I did think there might be one nearer, but can’t find any reference to Urgence on the Nontron (our first choice) site.
As it is a little better today she has opted to wait till tomorrow and see if it is better still, and more mobile, then decide. Meanwhile I’ll see if I can find this other place on Google.
Check with your neighbour… she will know where the nearest Urgences are located…
I’m trying to think where you are living…
Certainly there’s one at Limoges and St Yrieix and Angoulême (I’ve visited all three of those at one time or another…)
perhaps with covid things are difficult these days re the Urgences… perhaps not all of them are open, but I reckon your neighbour will be pleased to help you.
David, maybe the place you went was once a ‘part’ of the main hospital? The main hospital has gone under a lot of changes over the last few years, so could now be part of the main building?
Call your MT and get him to leave you an script at reception, just in case. You could could try for a hospital car, because of the parking! Do you have a wheelchair?
I am free on Wednesday if you need help.
That’s very kind, Lily, but I think she has agreed to go tomorrow, whether we make it or not is another matter, getting decisions and actually doing things are not always the same thing. I know where the Urgence is at CH Perigueux, it is round the back, not sure if I am allowed to drive round there but the parking is not a problem usually, unless things have changed since the last time.
She wouldn’t like a hospital car, because of the pain it is very difficult to get her to her feet, I usually end up with both arms under her armpits, she is only about 40 kgs but that is a deadweight with no assistance possible from her and, again because of the useless arm, cannot be done by 2 people.
No, no wheelchair, I wondered about that, perhaps there are chairs there to borrow if I can’t drop off where the ambulances go. Her sticks are no good though she only has one usable arm and that has to hold on tight to me. Can be painful at times, and I have the nail marks to prove it.
@toryroo It takes about an hour or just under from here to the hospital. I know to come into the entrance from the roundabout but not sure if I would be allowed to turn left to the urgences or go all the way round. Using the main entrance would only work with a wheelchair.
Anyway, the first thing to do tomorrow is persuade her to get up and ready to go out, it wouldn’t be till the afternoon.
Ha ha, pulling her to her feet is not really an option, she starts to shout and scream. Usually I pull the covers back and, grasping her ankles, pull them over the side of the bed and put her slippers on. Then she gives way and allows me to pull her upright and then to her feet. But not today. The noise starts as soon as I touch her ankles.
@david_gillies I did that over 5 years ago when she had her 1st stroke, they simply passed it to the Pompiers control who passed it to the local Pompiers who came straight away, just after my neighbour, a retired Pompier, had called his old station personally. So when they answered his call, they told him they were on their way. They spent the best part of an hour testing her on all the equipment before taking her to Perigueux. On one of the other 2 attacks, the same happened but quicker because I call the neighbour 1st after that.
On that occasion they took her to the football field and the helicopter. There was a doctor on board and he went into the ambulance and conducted a lot more tests before deciding that she was ok to continue by road. Another, more urgent call for the 'copter had come in and off they took, but not before they ejected the Collie dog from it that had been running round the field and repeatedly jumping in.
I might have a word next door this afternoon and, if necessary tomorrow, see if they are the answer. She won’t scream at them.
I tnink we might be off to Perigueux in an hour or so. She refused to go yesterday but today I managed to get her up, washed and dressed and went to Marie-Paule to ask her to ring the Pompiers. Long story short , during which she offered to take her in her car, due to Covid there is a long waiting time.
Unbeknownst to me she has shortened this by saying it is urgent, she fell today.
I have to back her up if asked but will say the first fall was last week, which is why I phoned the doctor on Monday, but that she has apparently fallen again today, during the night.
Ambulance due at 2pm. I will follow in the car with the dogs.
Well, she is on her way, the ambulance was bang on time and they were very efficient giving her a few tests and bracing her arm before wheeling her into the van.
She made hardly a peep, wide eyed and loving the attention from 2 fit young men
They said I could follow but it could be a long wait there and they wouldn’t let me in because of covid, so they have mine and M-P’s numbers, but she has said if I go across to her at 5pm she will phone to get the score.
