I stand corrected! confused by the Dordogne river which runs through Ste Foy. :-)
Who'll guard the guards themselves?
Ste Foy is in Gironde ;-) Port Ste Foy is in Dordogne
Reason there is nowhere to sit is probably that they don't expect you to want to stay there any longer than necessary
Isnt is a case of the Australians getting a bit confused with pom and pohm? were they not the pohm's? Prisoner of Her Majesty which referred of course to the Australians...not the Brits.
I understood you liked language.
So is it pom or poHM ?
What does that translate to in English please?
As they (used to ) say : QUIS CUSTODIET IPSOS CUSTODES
Latin, I know, and old of course, but still a good question.
No I'm not Brian but I always leave the UK to come back to France from Dalham, just south-east of Newmarket and my stock-up shopping is always there or Bury.
I start off in Herefordshire, then Cardiff, then in Dalham. Always those three but sometimes Yorkshire and County Durham, and more convoluted involving London and Oxford, but I'm guilty of sometimes not telling some people that I'm even in England!
I left the area just short of 10 years ago after 38 years there, miss it quite a bit in a strange way. My butcher in the Saturday market especially but probably I wouldn't recognise it all now. You from thereabouts? I was in Brinkley just down below Dullingham a bit.

"I already had a problem with my local Waitrose in Newmarket. Their checkouts are at the street end but their parking is behind the store which means that if the weather is bad, which it is very often in the east, to get to the car meant a good soaking on the way there. In fact, one might be soaked going into the store as well if it was snowing, raining or wet making when one arrived."
Brian - there's a new one there now, (in a different location), which addresses your criticisms and there's much more parking space too which is a huge improvement.
Beam him up Scottie!
I knew there would be somebody! :-) :-)
I buy loads at Grande Frais because I can get what I cannot get elsewhere, although the Stilton they sell is mediocre pre-packed stuff.
Careful there Vic.
true...they do seem to have departed David. We have looked for said fellow again...and he is long since gone. When we related the story to the couple who owned the gite we were staying in they recalled being duped by the same fellow. As you say...disappeared and not to be missed!
Agreed - I'll dig out some photos
Not sure where you shop in the UK Chris...but where I live in Newbury I dont recognise that description...(actually the super size Tesco on a Saturday night/Sunday morning I will give you is a logistical nightmare as they restock) for the rest...disagree...Lidl veg superb as are Aldi and Sainsburys and M&S...though I use our local market on Thursday and Saturday....extra good value...and lovely fresh veg. Beef is great...and I can buy different grades...if I want melt in the mouth I buy the more expensive grade...but I know its edible and wont wear my jaw out.
I used to be a 'secret shopper in the UK'. Supermarkets were my main customers...so I would ask staff where items were, stand in the check out and tell them Id forgotten an item and see if they would get if for me. I would have to forget my card number...and take 10 minutes fiddling around to pay and see how they coped. The supermarkets in the UK take customer service very seriously. Most of my secret shopper jobs would take 1 - 2 hours there were so many areas I had to assess and the forms once at home, could take another hour to fill in.
What lovely things do you get in the French supermarket you cant get in the UK? 10 years ago I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you....not now, apart from glace chestnuts and chestnut yoghurts which you cant get in the UK....I am pushed to think of anything I cant buy in England. One thing I miss in France which I havent yet tracked down are soft and hard Herring Roe....have visited all the supermarkets and fish mongers in our area...plus in the Perpignan area...
I dont object to the French shopping experience either...mainly....Carrefour in Perpignan offers a superb range of goods and the fish counters are something else entirely, but it is so dependent on where you live...the Dordogne really doesnt come up trumps. I have never yet bought a rigid cucumber in a supermarket here...apart from Grande Frais...who are excellent.
Hey Edwidge. Sorry about your back. I don't suppose after 4 years here there is much point in asking if we can see what a French member looks like? :-0
I am French {(yes some of us follow the Network:)} and I totally agree with all the above. My other very big bugbear is that there is never anywhere to sit down, at least in England they have cafe INSIDE the supermarket or somewhere a row of chairs. I have a bad back and I always dread the Friday shopping round, I even once sat in the bottle pull out bit.
