French TV Series/Soaps

I know several neighbours will be thrilled that this Series is returning… they used to arrange their lives around this essential-viewing.

do any SF folk watch this sort of thing… ? any preferences ?? stuff I can find on U-Tube…

I have followed Demain Nous Appartient and Ici Tout à Commence since the very first episode but the one mentioned, I saw a few times but was not taken by it. There are lots of series that keep returning especially police/mystery ones but sometimes more than one episode is shown and to be honest I tend to want my bed these days instead. I find/found that watching soaps/series you begin to take in the language more and more as you understand what is going on.

My favourites were Louis le Brocante and 30 Million d’Amis, but have not got into regular French viewing for sometime. Main reason is the programme schedules onscreen are very poor, only showing current and next. I like to plan my day. So often though on English tv the only thing worth watching is Channel 4 News, and that is too often a lost signal nowadays.

I always remember the cooking slot with Maite (sp) at lunchtimes, big woman with huge hands and arms and could turn to any dish, mostly good hearty country fare but I learned a few things. What does annoy me more than anything when they put a brand new series on TF1 starting at 21h, but then they go on and show two or more episodes the same night so if you are tired and can’t carry on, you miss most of it - Manifest and SWAT come to mind. I love Camping Paradis and like spotting the actors from other soaps who crop from time to time.

My other half is addicted to PBLV and was most aggrieved when it stopped. Since it’s termination France 3 has had a big problem filling the void. A revamped version will do well on TF1. I don’t mind watching it though some of the storylines were a bit dodgy over the years. There’s no political talk and the series only contained a couple of hours Covid talk and that was right at the beginning of the pandemic.
Some good actors over the years but some equally bad ones.

We enjoy the police series PJ set in a Paris arrondisement. We watch it on TV5Mondeplus (free). A little dated but that just adds to it’s appeal for us.

I love the PJ series, only discovered it last year on TV channel RMC story. I don’t sleep well and sometimes am awake all night so discovered it is shown from about 0200 to 0600 week nights
It IS dated and probably very un PC but reminds me of the France I first knew ie when boyfriend was stopped on a routine traffic control and had to be splayed spread eagle over the car bonnet to be searched(not me thank goodness)But lots of good stories, also shows the human and comic side of the cops in addition to their frailties and errors of judgement.
It has taken me some time to piece together the different cops etc and think I saw the last ever episode but missed quite a few inbetween.
Also have to concentrate to understand everything as sometimes as they speak too rapidly for me.

PJ yes, also ‘Engrenages’ (aka Spiral). Both show it how [I think] it really is.

‘Marseille’ on Netflix. A haphazard city, seedy politics and some very elegant women all mixed together - a must watch!
