Getting the Internet

Plenty of mobile routers available and then just a sim card if your mobile network is any good. €10-20 per month with plenty of data so film watching is also possible.

We had this problem with a house we bought in the Pyrenees. In fact, the solution is relatively simple. You should look for a telephone line entering the house from the street: usually just under the eaves and coming in through a window frame.
Because the first question any operator will ask is: “Is there an existing telephone number?” Most people won’t be able to answer this question but if you tell them that, yes, there is a line coming into the house then they’ll be happy. They will send a man who will update the cable and then invite you to plug in your Livebox or whatever. And it probably will be an Orange Livebox as, in the country, they appear to have first ‘go’ if not a monopoly.
How do you get the box? Go to your local Orange store in the local big town and ask for one. Then plug it in yourself. This is easy. It will then radiate wifi signals which your phone will pick up. Or, you can plug a computer/tablet etc into it.
This is what I do: buy a cheap second-hand Dell or other computer and a second-hand screen (Emmaus) and plug them into your Livebox: much easier and more convivial than messing around with tiny screen and keyboard of a telephone!

Thanks folks for the additional replies. All very helpful indeed.

Nothing to do with Mike’s search for an Internet connection.

Got this email from Orange earlier.

Yeah, right, you’re so committed to my satisfaction that you just have to up my subscription by 2€.

It doesn’t matter what language it’s written in - corporate bullshit is corporate bullshit. :rage:

You old cynic, Billy. They’re simply offering you an opportunity to join in and celebrate their continuing success…

I got one of those recently, and thought well, well, what a surprise, not !
