I always thought of giraffes as gentle, peaceful herbivores until I read recently of a fatal attack on a sight-seer by a mother giraffe defending her young calf, thinking it was under attack.
Not blaming the giraffe, but shall be very careful to avoid close quarters if or when I meet one. I do think they should be left free, not confined in zoos or even wild-life parks.
