Gite Spoils

:rofl: start the day with a chuckle… thanks Tim

Never been a member of the WI. - Young Farmers and the Rugby Club were more my thing :hugs::grin::grin:

Over the four years we have operated our gîte we have principally collected phone chargers of which we now have a considerable collection. Other than that, we have not seen much barring the occasional bag of frozen peas left in the freezer compartment, although some clients have been kind enough to restock the “essentials” that we provide. I can only envy those that receive what are undoubtedly well deserved bottles of wine. The saddest object that I can recall is a pregnancy testing kit that was left in the bathroom by a young couple. The test was negative. As the couple had come from relatively near by and reserved the day of their arrival (in the winter), I had strong suspicions that this was not what they were hoping for.

Vale of Lune for me.

When we were house hunting we stayed in a french owned gite and I could have read a book through the towels that were provided.

Ahhhhh so therefore, in your world = ALL French run gites have thin towels. Got ya Jane…:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

I used to run the cleaning teams for a holiday home management company in NW Florida and also had my own cleaning company too. We regularly had guests leave loaded firearms, usually in bedside drawers. Having worn green for a bit in my early years I was always having to go make them safe and then ship them off to their absent minded owners via a local gun shop. The mobile phone call to them as they were on their way home used to crack me up as they floundered round making excuses!

That’s shocking to me but probably not to US citizens.

Yeah, originally hailing from the UK it took a while to get used to!

Eeek! Hunting rifles I’m used to but not in bedside drawers!

When I reply stating my experience, without fail you extrapolate what I have said to totally cover the same subject.

Why do you do that?

Simon likes winding people up, we could be twins.:grinning:

Ok Jane so what point were you trying to make by saying

Why say it was ‘French owned’ - why is that relevant ?

Hi Jane why not take a leaf out of Simon’s playbook and utilise the Ignore Users Function - He thoroughly recommends it for those people whose opinion you don’t want to hear (See the thread where he explains exactly how you can use it) - Perfect when you are being constantly harassed/trolled by another hypocritical member who has nothing better to do with their time.:triumph::rage::grimacing:

Thank you Dan.
I’ll just ignore him.

We did our first one, too - 3 bottles of wine, cheese, Coca cola, pasta, ice cream, biscuits, onions, garlic, as well as the usual mayonnaise, olive oil, mustard, shampoos. By the end of the season, we have enough shampoo, coffee filters, etc to last the winter!

So, a bit late to the party on this post having assumed it would be a nice quiet non-contentious subject…

And I am appalled at some of the comments.

I’ve just spoken to @james and we would just like to make a public service announcement that the next person who makes a personal comment or attack on another member will get booted. No questions, no trawling through the post to see who said what. Etc. Etc.

We both work full time and have better things to do than deal with people who are persistently breaking the one golden rule - stay polite.

And if you are not sure if your comment is ‘polite’ enough, keep it to yourself. The chances are no one else wants to hear it.

To return to the original subject, we often have small bottles of olive oil, jars of mayonnaise, jars of mustard, cheese and have had lovely returning guests who leave us what they didn’t drink from the wine they brought from England to try while on holiday. We are truly blessed here in Cantobre, a tiny hamlet in the Aveyron.
