Good news - Brexit opinion shifts

Yes I was going to draw a comparison with Johnson but decided my post was long enough!

You or I probably have an equal chance of being right about Farrago and the extent of his political ambitions - we shall see!

As the ancient Chinese curse has it - “May you live in interesting times!”

Not sure has the winning ticket but he sure has the popular vote. Good on him representing the normal working average Brits. Why not?

Why not?

Because the last people he *actually* represents are “normal working average Brits”.

He wants the power and the pension and to make populist noises about supporting the average Brit while doing no such thing. He’s no different to Johnson - another Pound Shop Trump - lazy and feckless when it comes down to it.

Farage represents the average worker like Clarkson and Dyson represent the average farmer. Unfortunately they are very social media savvy and their PR machines, aided by X, will continue to fan the flames and mobilise the gullible and even the not so gullible. So yes I do not think it is at all impossible that Farage will do a Trump.

Remember Boris Johnson, another bone idle M.P and mayor who spent lots of time away from his job? And then got elected PM. This clearly demonstrates, you don’t have to be ; bright, hardworking, honest or faithful to be the leader of a major power , just be different, a bit of a maverick. This is how Trump and Johnson gained power. Elected by voters looking for something different. We’d all love to write off Farage, but while some believe he’s ’ a man of the people, the kind of bloke you can have a laugh with " ( the reality is of course, he wouldn’t spit on you if you were on fire) he’s got a chance.

Johnson had the Conservative Party machine behind him - if he had started the Boris Party after the Brexit referendum he would have been in the same position as Farage is now - noisy, appearing on BBC Question Time every other week, with a handful of MPs perhaps but not forming a government.

Similarly Trump would not have been elected President if the Republican Party and their financial backers had not lined up to support and promote him. Even with all that on his side he didn’t win by much in 2016 or this year, and was defeated four years ago.

Do not underestimate the power of Elon Musk and his millions, and their relentless drip drip drip of misinformation and conspiracy theories, faux outrage and personal attacks, discrediting everything the UK’s elected government tries to do. I sometimes think that with enough money behind it, a monkey could be elected.

Well Liz Truss was, which is about the same with fewer excuses for being not up to the job.

And now I believe, with all the votes counted, did not after all win the popular vote. Some democracy. A bit like the UK then.
