When OH worked in the North, only straight glasses, when needs must ![]()
I wasnāt a fan either but a pint of Webster or Tetley bitter, hand pump was a different matter.
The local pubs all used to have glasses with handles, mostly reserved for locals hanging over the bar. Couldnāt have just anyone drinking from āOld Tomās ā glass.
Back in the last century, at our ālocalā straight glasses were used in the Public Bar and mugs were used in the Lounge Bar.
Glasses in whichever form were stored on shelves.
There were around 30 āpersonalā beer mugs (mostly pewter) hanging behind the bar of the Lounge, each belonging to a regular customer.
We had an unfortunately similar experience in the hotel we stayed at in Tours 5 months ago. Whilst there were 2 vegetarian options on the menu, they were some of the most disgusting, unappetising, and poorly presented food I have ever had the displeasure to be served. I made my disappointment known to the restaurant manager, who just shrugged her shoulders. Somewhat unsurprisingly, we didnāt eat there again on our stay on the way back via Tours. YMMV as the saying goes!
Yes a region getting famous for awful food
