Google Chrome can't access, help needed!

This line of code will be your problem

I don't really care what Canary is...can you actually access the translation interface, rather than the website, for Matecat in anything other than Chrome or Safari?

Same here Peter. Seems to work on everything.

Google Canary is just a stand-alone beta for Chrome Wendy.

Settings for Chrome sync between your various devices (if you use the sync feature) which can lead to problems. Likewise using extensions like add-block, Ghostery and a zillion others can also cause grief so don't forget to Whitelist sites if you find things like pop-up boxes NOT popping up or authentication not working.

Chrome itself has a built in pop-up blocker which you can turn off if needed (Settings > Privacy > Content Settings > Pop-ups)

In the same 'Content Settings' area make sure that you have not overdone the security settings as saying 'No' to all of those settings WILL screw up sites you need to log into.

When in doubt I just turn off ALL the extensions and if necessary, Reset Chrome (Settings > Advanced Settings > Reset Settings).

It is pretty much the same for all four common browsers. Kill the extensions and if needed, Reset the browser.

Sometimes it can be helpful to clear your browsing data (cookies, auto-fills, passwords, porn) and that can be found in Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data. Unchecking everything and just clearing the cookies can be useful.

On Windows systems you can Right-Click on the small Chrome icon down in the notification area (by the clock) and un-check the setting allowing Chrome to run in the background. I wouldn't do it myself though. (Might be the same for Mac puters..... Who knows?)

I also keep around a current copy of Canary (without any extensions) just for testing stuff.

Shirley, As an ex-pat computer technician you are free to ignore any advice I give and then blame me anyway when YOU mess up your PC.

I can access it from an iPad but it's just not practical...haven't used IE for years...

Wendy

With respect that is just plain wrong. I logged into Matecat from IE and I suspect others who use other browsers can do exactly the same.

And I have just logged into Matecat using Safari from my wife's I-Pad.

I do not know enough to tell you have to correct your problem but I can access Matecat from my PC, running under Windows 7 and using IE.

Peter

Thanks everyone, it has to be Chrome because Matecat only works with Chrome or Safari (couldn't get to my work on there). However....just before I got the sledgehammer out I found something online that said to try Google Canary...and hey presto! I have Matecat...but I'm so behind now...:-(

I too had problems a few months ago. Went over to Firefox and luckily was able to migrate all my bookmarks...phew!!

Have kinda got used to Firefox now but it has taken a while. Will probably go back to Google Chrome eventually. I have been finding it imperative that you keep all the peripherals ( java, shockwave etc.) updated, this is sometimes not as easy and automatic as you may assume it is. Had to do a "service" only yesterday in fact.

Good luck ;o)

Hi

I had endless problems with Google Chrome and was advised and did revert to IE.

No problems since.

Peter

Thanks Neill, Chrome doesn't seem to appear on the list at all :-(

Wendy I’ve had permanent problems with Google, Apple, yahoo, today Amazon.com for similiR problems.

I hope your PC hasn’t been repaired if not working, by an expat technician!

Hi Wendy, try this, works for me on Windows 8.1.

Go into Task Manager (Ctrl/alt/delete) and scroll down through "Background Processes" to Google Chrome.

Click on that and then End Task.

Another box may pop up, keep clicking on the 'x' top right until it disappears.

Someone far more qualified can explain all this but it seems to think Chrome is already running.

You should be able to get back in after doing it.

Neill

Blimey…what was all that about ?

Hi Bob,
A guy posted 4yrs later that he was still having problems accessing Matecat VM :woman_shrugging:t3:

Hallo Tracey
I don’t even know what that means…
however, the above thread had me completely baffled

Just had a pop up to update Chrome, anyone else had this?
No problem with Chrome and never had to update before, looked authentic…

This has the latest version numbers depending on which platform you are using.

I run Windows 10 on my laptop and Microsoft and Chrome are like Tweedledee and Tweedledum (or Johnson and Swinson/Corbyn/Sturgeon/Grieve rolled into a doughball) , they hate each other IMO.
