When the Wood/Oil cheques were first offered (end of last year)… it was down to the individual to apply…
The Govt not being aware which form of Heating a person has in their place of residence.
On entering their fiscal thingy on the Application, the govt computer is able to see whether or not the income-level of the Applicant makes them eligible for that special aid… or not…
I believe that there are financial aids which the Govt does send, automatically… but that is not the wood/oil situation.
Just reporting back that I’ve decided not to bother! Our main heating is a woodburner but, since I got a (small) exceptional payment against my electricity earlier in the year, I doubt if they’d give me anything, even if I had an invoice, which I don’t!
Ho hum … I’ll be better organised if this situation arises again
A warning if you’ve received a cheque énergie and have registered online to offset it against your energy bills…
I had received a (welcome surprise of a) 240€ cheque énergie a couple of months ago, and thought I had successfully registered online to offset it against my EDF bills. Purely for completeness, I spoke to the cheque énergie helpline today as I hadn’t received any confirmation email, as promised…
The very helpful lady took all the details and said …“ah…another one…” She explained that she and colleagues had received numerous similar questions from people who believe they’ve registered their cheque online. However in many cases they haven’t. Apparently one final step involves scratching a tiny strip on the side of the cheque, à la scratchcard, to reveal a code which needs to be added to the online details. I must admit I didn’t recall seeing that step online, but could have overlooked it…the fact that numerous others have apparently done likewise suggests the guidance may not be crystal clear…
If you have similarly registered but have not received a confirmation email, you may want to follow up with the cheque énergie 0800 helpline number listed on the cheque and paperwork that comes with it.
I did the scratchcard when I got my cheque, but take care when you scratch the coating off as it is only paper and I partially obscured some of the code,making it awkward to read.
