Travelling from Bordeaux to Lille I am given the option to upgrade so that I can take larger suitcases! I have always travelled with normal size suitcases without having to upgrade, is this something new, please?
bit like Ryanair - if it fits in the overhead rack no pay. If you want to stash it in the ‘luggage’ compartment at the front and back of the carriage, extra money…

Depends on whether it’s a ouigo or a normal tgv.

Yes, Ouigo the cheaper service slaps a €5 premium on oversized bags. On THVs etc you can have up to 130x90cm bags up to 30kg.
