Grease For Demolition Hammer

I bought a small no-name demolition hammer just before the Covid lockdown but didn’t get to use it until now.

The instructions recommend putting an oil ISO-VG-46 in the lubricating chamber, but there is also a correction note advising to ignore those instructions and to use the rather small tub of grease included in the box.
There is no indication what this grease is, so should I need to buy some more in the future would someone please tell me what to look for in the local brico?

Ta very muchly in advance.

Beanbag, if you do a search with:

‘Graisse lubrifiante pour perforateur’

You will find what you are looking for.

I use the Makita stuff and put a small blob on the end of the SDS bit from time to time.

This is a hydraulic oil. Not sure that a ‘tub of grease’ would be a suitable alternative if it’s a hydraulic hammer. If it’s just for lubrication though, possibly.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about it unless it’s going to get a massive amount of use (first time use in 4 or 5 years indicates it’s unlikely). If you ever did need any extra grease then a standard LM grease would be fine. Important to keep the SDS chuck greased.

Thanks guys.

There is an actual chamber that needs to be filled with some sort of lubricant, so not just a matter of greasing the bit.

@Mark

It was a cheapy that I bought to break up a stubborn concrete wall that wouldn’t shift with a sledgehammer and I’ve only just got around to doing it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is ‘LM’? :grimacing:

I thought this thread was going to be ex-apprentices reminiscing over being sent to fetch left-handed screwdrivers, metric adjustable spanner’s and sparks for the grinder.

I am greatly disappointed.

Lithium based, high melting point

Lithium Molybdenum

This sort of thing?

Yeah, a bit of LM grease should do fine.

Aha!

Thanks.

Yes, just like that one.

Saw loads of grease stuff called Moly but wasn’t sure if it was the right sort of grease.
Now I know!

@NotALot

:thinking:

Where exactly doea one put the grease? On the bit that holds your chosen bit of demolition iron?

On my Titan SDS drill one removes a cover which reveals the gearbox and puts it there.

D*rn it looks like I’ll have to look at the manual for the one I just bought then. I don’t really trust appliances to come pre-oiled without fail.

I bought a tin of Castrol LM in 1977 when I changed my Autobianchi A112’s CV joints. It’s still half full :slightly_smiling_face:
