We’ve had a quote to replace some doors and windows. The quote includes 1640 euros for a ten year guarantee. It does not appear to be optional. Is this normal?
The total cost is in the region of 10,000 euros so I would have thought a long guarantee would be included.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks very much
Hi Allison and welcome to the forum.
My first thought is that the sums you mention could be
Cost + TVA… ???
As a rule of thumb, one would get more than one quote… and I would advise you to do so if you’ve not done so already.
At least you will know if the “total cost” of 10,000€ is reasonable.
(you don’t say if TVA is included in this total sum)
and a bona fide company/artisan should have their own 10year Insurance against shoddy/poor workmanship/product…
(But I do like to see the xxyear guarantee mentioned in the quote/facture.)
be interested to see what others think about this…
The windows should be guaranteed at no extra cost by the manufacturer. The installer if not from the window company should also have deçennel artisan insurance and the customer SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED extra for any guarantee. I have had the window fitters back twice since I bought the house, not a mention of any charge only that its all under their guarantee. If an estimate is charging for this, get more quotes is all I can say and my OH would never have charged extra either.
Without any details of numbers, sizes etc it is impossible to say if that price is good or bad. All I can say is that I had just 2 double glazed UPVC/anthracite outside/white inside open and drop down windows fitted approx 4.5 years ago and they came to a total of €1800 TTC. Not huge windows either. Doors are expensive anyway, even cheap wooden ones as its not just the door but the work to remove the old frame and insert the new plus locks etc. Get a few quotes and use a local company/artisan if possible - I did and got first class service both times (they even came back twice to check all working)
Decennial insurance is obligatory, but normally built into the quote. Is it possible that the formatting of the document has muddled up the line stating you will have insurance with the line showing the 11% TVA?
That is the fitting part if the quote, with the written confirmation that the 10 year warranty covers it.
That seems to make more sense actually!
Thanks very much
Many years ago when the local artisan fitted new windows and door there was a scheme and we got back 40% . have you considered this scheme, MaPrimeRénov. ?
100% agree!
Thanks very much
I’ll definitely have a look at that scheme.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Do so before you sign the devis. With most of these schemes they have to be agreed in advance.
