I was thrilled to watch Halley’s Comet stroll across the skies, all those years ago…
but there is something almost as good… still on the go…
“This meteor shower holds a special place in the annual calendar of celestial events… if you missed already the “once-in-a-lifetime event” of Halley’s Comet, don’t worry, this annual Orionid meteor shower offers a unique opportunity providing some compensation,” says Dr Minjae Kim, a physicist at University of Warwick.
If the comet continues to gain brightness, observation opportunities from the northern hemisphere, particularly in France, will begin in late September. The optimal viewing period starts around October 10, when conditions should be ideal for seeing the comet with the naked eye. To catch a glimpse, position yourself towards the western horizon shortly after sunset. Choosing a clear, open location away from city lights will enhance visibility and allow you to fully appreciate this celestial marvel.
