How much Mat?
I think it was about 3 euros.
2x90g?
Yes it was
We bought some from Grand Frais and grilled it in our Ninja for supper yesterday.
It was the best ever.
We had grilled Halloumi as a starter in a Chateau where we were staying in the Gorges du Tarn. Basically it was served as alternate slices of hot grilled cheese and slices of cold tomato, on a bed of lettuce. It had fresh black pepper sprinkled on it, and there was a warm salad dressing of green pesto with warm toasted pine nuts mixed into warm extra virgin olive oil covering the surface of the cheese and tomato. When we got home we had the urge to eat Halloumi every week, and found it in dept 06 in SuperU, and in the English supermarket in Antibes. We will try alternative recipes you have written about here as well, thanks.
Salty
Salty but bland and milky taste-wise, it’s raison d’être is that when you grill or fry it it goes wonderfully rubbery and chewy keeping its shape without spreading all over the place, (so not like eg raclette,) and it is squeaky and gets a crust of deliciousness, presumably because of maillard reaction.
A bit salty, a bit rubbery, sometimes it’s caramelised on the outside to give it a wider range of flavours.
