Have Clay Will Travel

I think lots of people may be interested in what Alain and Joanna do. If you run courses and you’re looking for tutors, if own a Chambre d’Hôte or gîtes and would like to offer something extra to your guests, their rates are so reasonable. If you’d like to learn French… If you organise activities for children they would be just fab… So here’s some more about them:

Friendly bilingual sculpture courses with sculptors: Alain Kurylo and Joanna Hair. Join us in the countryside near Le Mans, discover sculpture and get a real feel for French life! A unique mix of art, linguistic and cultural exchange.

We’re professional sculptors with over 30 years experience, I have a degree in French and Italian and have lived in France since 1979, exhibiting, teaching and bringing up a family. Alain has a diploma from the Paris ENSAAMA Art school where he was a pupil of the sculptor VOLTI. I specialise in animal sculpture and messing about with clay generally, here’s my website with examples of my work and Alain specialises in the human form, slip casting, clay or plaster sculpture. Raku firings can be part of a longer course or a return visit.

We teach 7 day summer sculpture courses - and weekends all year round on request - at our workshop and studio in a pretty village just North of Le Mans. All levels and all ages welcome in English, French or Franglais: small groups, families, friends, adults only and kids only or mixed…it’s upto you. We are entirely flexible e.g. you might like to combine sculpture and French in my Fifty-Fifty class, aimed at encouraging English speakers, nervous of their French to mingle with French speakers equally nervous of their English to communicate in franglais over tea and sympathy, a few silly party games or drawing if you feel like it.

We’ll come to you to teach 10€ per hour, 120 € per weekend inc clay and first firing (plus our petrol costs).

Our courses are special because we like to introduce you not only to sculpture but also to French life. Our friends and neighbours love to meet our guests, share a meal or a glass or two and show them round their gardens. We like to mix and match and enjoy the exchange of culture, language and art that results.

You can stay “en famille” with us or with our neighbours or we’ll find you a B and B, campsite or a gîte, we’ll pick you up from the staion in Le Mans. You can check out the racing in Le Mans or the son et lumière ‘Les Chimères"
