Hello from a not so newcomer to France

Hello everyone - we moved out here 6 years ago to un petit coin de paradis in the Dordogne. Hve probably been spending far to much time on a forum for Sheffield so thought I’d better join one over here, it’ll give me somerhing useful to do during the winter when I can’t do the amount of gardening I do in spring / summer / autumn.

We’re both retired and have never regretted our move.

Hello and welcome to Survive France!

And a welcome from me

No doubt you will soon realise that the Dordogne is in fact a very large part of Paradise. :joy:

Welcome from me too.
If you like gardening the link below maybe of interest. Us gardeners are always looking for tips, tricks & advice or just different ways of gardening.

And welcome from me too. You may be surprised how much you can do over winter. Especially in recent years the weather in Dordogne / Lot et Garonne has been pretty benign.

One January I took delivery of 99 whips for a mixed wild hedge and got them all in and settled with no problem at all. Some of them are now trees. I often prune my rose bushes and rose hedges in the depth of winter. Lots of stuff begins to sprout and has the sap rising really early.

Welcome to SF, from one of the ‘not yet’ contingent.

Thanks for all your comments - appreciated.

Re: gardening - treat it more as exercixe to keep fit ratther than being green fingered, Have about 1,000 m2 of lawn in 4 different patches and pretty uneven, some under walnut / fruit trees. Kinda rules out a sit on mower. With this year being warm and wet I’ve never had to cut the grass so much. When we noved in I was advised by my neighbour that I would need to cut the grass *au printemps tout semaine, en ete tout mois". This year ir’a been weekly from the end of Feb until last weekend,

Mind you I reckon the grass has been good for livestock - lamb chops have been plentiful and comparitively cheap this year and have none of the muttony taste we’ve encountered previously.

Definitely to your advantage then I would say. I don’t have a lawn and don’t want one, but I watch the bloke across the lane who has a very large one and slumps on his mower, very slowly defying the dangerous slope and the damage to his posture while I, managing my grassy areas which are not extensive, walk behind my motorised traction mower which goes anywhere with its large drive wheels. I often think if I had his lawn I would still use this one as it would give me plenty of walking exercise at considerably little effort.
