I’m Gemma. My husband and I have lived in France for 38 years combined. We now use our experience to run a service that helps expats with any and all of their French paperwork.
This forum is great, very knowledgeable! I look forward to getting to know you all, and offering advice where I can
Welcome to SF Gemma. I’m sure your experience will be useful here - why not tell us a bit more about yourself and where you live currently.
Just a quick note on etiquette around here - it’s considered good form to check that the site owner @cat is informed you wish to post business links and has agreed it’s OK. I’m sure you will understand why this is important.
Hello,
Thank you so much for the heads up there, I absolutely understand the caution and will contact her
We are currently living in the Dordogne region, after spending 15 years in the French Alps, more specifically Chamonix. We moved to the Dordogne 2 and a half years ago with a toddler and a baby, for a change of pace in life. My husband is English but grew up in France. It’s not been easy since we moved as I had a run in with breast cancer, but life is (hopefully!) very good now.
She has a siret number, which means she is registered as a commercial activity. There is no official profession as handhold, so is registered as “Services administratifs combinés de bureau”
Hi Gemma, if you click on your picture and select the envelope symbol and then type cat into the top text box it should automatically find her. She is aware of your presence and may have contacted you already.
Thank you for telling us about yourself. If you’ve spent any time lurking here before joing you’ll know we’re a mix of French residence and those who have maison secondaires (I’m one of those). There’s a wide variety of people on the forum, and I hope you find the community welcoming.
But is a handholder who has a registered Siret number - so I personally don’t think that heinous. After all Trump says he is a great President which is patently a lie.
Hi,
Sorry if that’s unclear. What I mean by registered is that we are an official recognised French business. There is no qualification for being a hand holder, just experience and a lot of research.
You only need to see our reviews on Google to know that we are legitimate, and take our work very seriously.
By registered I mean that we are registered as a business. I know of many “hand holders” that aren’t an official business, take cash in hand and don’t actually know what they are doing. Indeed we have cleared up many of their messes.
I will keep the title of the thread as it is, but thank you for your input and apologies for the confusion.
So far no one else seems to have found this problematic, but nevertheless it begs the question, are there any other threads you think might benefit from renaming?
Good luck with the business. I know from experience how hard it is to raise a family and run a business here to survive. We had a lot of so called handholders spring up in the 90’s in Bretagne, most of them having only duly arrived so were desperate to make money on the black with no real information at all and then hey presto they were gone back to the UK leaving a trail of furious brits out of pocket.
