Hello from Normandie.
Just a word to politely say “Hi”, before I launch into a rant about anything.
I am pretty sure I have conversed with David Spardo on a UK truck forum, so a special “Hi” to him.
Sorry, mate but you can’t get away!
I love that your reputation precedes you @David_Spardo ![]()

Morning All
Where abouts are you in Normandy @Franglais ?
Welcome to SF, we look forward to hearing from you.
We don’t just rant some of our threads are quite positive. ![]()
No, no, don’t let him in, nothing but a troublemaker. Cat, Billy, where are you?
Only joking I better hasten to add, one of the more sensible lads on that late departed forum. I remember that the 2 of us were almost alone in calmly facing the angry Brexit mob back in the day, one of whom even advocated throwing all migrants out of a plane without a parachute. ![]()
Must admit, as a migrant myself, that did give a little pause for thought in case it caught on elsewhere. ![]()
Good to see you again, @Franglais, if no other reason that friends here will now know I haven’t been bulling about lorries and their drivers over the last 4 odd years.
Welcome! Looking forward to hearing from you via SF.
Thanks for all the replies.
I am in 27 Eure, not too far from Bernay.
Now retired from driving trucks, hence my (online) meeting with David Spardo.
Much as I am enjoying lots here, I do have one rant pent up inside at the moment. Not a specifically French one, just a rant about treatment by www/mobile phone providers.
I think that is a truth universally acknowledged, that a client with a small fortune must be fleeced by phone providers, as was never said by Miss Austen.
Hiya!
One way and another…I had enough of that site. I don’t mind having an “animated debate” if you like, but hidden (not very well) threats of violence etc was a bit wearing.
Enough of that, back to happier times I trust. ![]()
Welcome, @Franglais
Bienvenue @Franglais.
Your style & humour thus far have already made me want to read any further posts that you may contribute to.
@Franglais hello and welcome.
Thank you both!
I maybe should explain that I am currentl on best behaviour , being new here, but David Spardo might know I can be a bit crotchety too.
As a bit of an aside I have had no fibre www for about 6 weeks now. Not best pleased as the mobile signal here is very sketchy too.
Now I have checked my upcoming bills and they are wanting to charge me extra because I have used my mobile more for international calls rather than the (non-existant) landline! I have passed a few messages, spoken to a few “councillers” (they really shoud be trained by the Samaritans) andnahve received some more promises about refunds and estimates about when service will be restored etc etc.
Oh well, I do not rely on www for work or owt, so can afford to be be a bit laid back, but having to spend time chasing up over charging is no fun.
Sounds like you’ll fit right in. ![]()
Mobile signal can be a bit tricky sometimes, though if you have an upstairs, going to it and standing by the window if your walls are thick can help. We got here yesterday, and mobile data was very patchy, but I’ve just learned it was a fault and has just been repaired so all is good again.
Phew, thank goodness, I thought for a moment you were going to regale us with your toiletry problems. ![]()
Hi.
Mobile signal here has always been weak (Orange) I can sometimes get some data from them on 3g and 4g. I found an app that shows relative signal strength according to different providers, and that showed that Bouygues have soe 5g here, so I now have an extra e-sim from them. Using that tethered to my laptop as we speak. That is on a no-contract sim only deal, but given the way Orange are performing I may well get a fibre+sim deal from Bouygues. Looks to be cheaper anyway!
The Bouygues data signal on the mobile still drops out occasionally but not as often as Orange does. I have found that when it drops, if I go out into the lane, and “pick up the signal” again I can carry it back into the house…Or, speaking as a non-expert, that is certainly what appears to happen.
Spardo, the amount of fibre in my diet requires no discussion in public.
You will be relieved to hear! ![]()
If you think the price is high here, try the US, where it is hard to find a plan for less than $50/mo.
I have never been to the US, and currently…(well let’s avaoid too much politics on my first day here) have no plans… but I am rather surprised by that. I would have imagined that electro and tech stuff would have been cheaper in the US? Or is a result of the vast areas of sparsely populated land or ??
