Hello - Just joined this very informative site

I'm of the old school belt and braces generation, and am trying desperately to acquaint myself with todays technology. My Freesat box looks to be too far away from my router to make use of the Ethernet cable supplied. The box instructions say that, as an alternative, I can make use of Homeplug Adapters to achieve a connection to the internet. Now my question! ....... My son-in law has given me two such adapters which were over supplied with his BT Homehub back in the UK. Are these adapters ok to use in France with my Orange Livebox, or are they not compatible. Also, if I was to try to connect via an Ethernet cable, is there anything against using a 10 metre cable?

Hi Roger and welcome to SFN. As far as I know (hopefully other members will have more information), there is no issue with using a 10m cable to connect.

As far as the adaptors are concerned, why not just plug them in and see what happens?

I have a modem from Orange (France Telecom) but the wifi is very weak, so I had brought a wifi modem with me from Ireland, set it up as a router, ran several metres of cable and connected it to Orange Lifebox, and I have decent wifi all over the house.

Good luck!
