Supermarkets are also making collections. Not for the usual food items, but hygiene, sanitary products (for the elderly also) and baby items, are top of the list.

check with your Mairie and whoever… and see if they need an English speaker/writer.
I’ve heard that packages/parcels are supposed to be labelled in English… which is presumably the Internation Language…

Coming home from work tonight I caught the electronic message sign out of the corner of my eye (Marsac, outer area of Perigueux) asking people who can take in refugees to get in touch. I wish we had some space

Final update for this time-around… from my commune.
(I’m sure other communes have had similar happenings.)
It’s been amazing… the response from everyone has been so generous.
Stuff has been flooding into the Mairie.
It’s been non-stop, sorting, packing, labelling boxes and bags.
Yesterday, neighbours came with small vans… were loaded up… then trundled to the com-com receiving depot.
A human chain unloaded and added our varous offerings to whichever correct stack of goods in the storeroom.
I understand that large lorries will be taking the whole lot to the main receiving depot today… then off and away to where it’s all need so desperately.
EDIT: If anyone can continue to put aside/earmark at home, any useful things… I reckon that would be a good idea… as I’m sure there will be more calls for help for Ukraine in the following weeks/months. and, of course, there are many associations in France which need help all the time.

I was reading a report that money is actualky more useful. There are now lorries and lorries full of stuff with nowhere to store the stuff, or sort it to get what is needed out and to the right place. It is a logistical nightmare.
So anyone who is in a position to donate money please do so.
We’ve registered for accomodation, and to do translation from english to french at local centre - should any ukrainians make it to this part of france. We also offered accommodation to young refugees coming up from the italien border who need a couple of nights break -mainly from Africa but a refugee is a refugee.

I can well believe it… it takes ages to sort and label when stuff is simply dumped higgledy piggledy…
Clear, correct labelling will enable essentials to get where they are needed.

They were on the “wanted urgently” list we received from the Préfet…
and glad to say folk were very generous. I reckon our local shops had their shelves emptied.

I wanted to raise money for Ukraine by creating an eating experience for a large group 80 perhaps donating 50 euros per person…really a casual event but with good tasty food. Well possibly I can have a chateau with kitchen and supply all manpower myself. Well I have found one chef so far who is happy to participate. I can put it all together but it will take time to organise. I would need wine donations, more chefs. helpers and marketing.
I would work via the red cross and my marie.
