Hi All,
I want to replace my British driving license for a French one (something I have been meaning to do for a long time!) and I've now lost my English one and of course I don't know the number of the one I've lost! I need a phone number or someone I can contact to try and sort the mess out but only manage to get a number with an automated voice that can't help me. Does anyone know who to contact?
Many thanks,
Beckie
A friend had a nightmare time with our local Préfecture (in Bourg-en-Bresse) with just the certificate of entitlement. (She had unwisely sent the DVLA her UK licence asking how to exchange it!) The Préfecture simply refused to give her a French licence as their rules required the exchange of a Permis de conduire and not some other piece of paper that merely said she was entitled to one. They steadfastly took the view that as she was entitled to one, the DVLA should issue her with one. The DVLA was equally intransigent.
It was only resolved in the end by her French husband writing directly to the Préfet, and suggesting that this was no way to welcome a newly naturalized Frenchwoman, which she was.
Moral: If you still have contacts at the original address, try to get a duplicate sent there.
Can't find the exact stuff but start here They wont send a licence overseas but they will send you a certificate of entitlement which is supposed to be sufficient for an exchange.
