Help. Please help. Propane BBq regulator

For the love of all things holy, please help me.

I have a gas BBQ which I bought here in France. The internet told me to attach it to propane. I’ve done this using a regulator and pipe from bricomarche.

After two uses it entirely stopped working and I determined it was down to the regulator. The internet told me to do many thing to reset the regulator but nothing worked. I took the regulator back to Bricomarche and they begrudgingly replaced it with another regulator.

The new one worked. Twice.

It’s now refusing to let gas through again.

I’m at the end of my tether and I’m bored of this damned thing not working.

Please tell me, in completely simple terms, how to make the bastard thing work.

Welcome.

Maybe you’ll find something here: Gas bottle problem

This might sound a bit daft, but can we confirm that the regulator is connected directly to the gas bottle in a reasonably horizontal manner, and then the flexi hose goes from the regulator to the BBQ ? Also, is the gas bottle standing up straight ? One assumes that the bottle is full ?

What bbq? Is your tank butane or propane? Are the regulators butane or propane?

Our regulator has a little button underneath, just at the hose outlet and we need to press that for the gas to flow. Something similar perhaps?

Ours has the button on the side. It’s green and needs to be pressed to prime the gas circuit. It also has a twist valve to turn it on and off, where RED means on and GREEN means off. Go figure.
It would be a good idea @Jaye_Daniels if you could post a picture of the regulator in closeup and of the propane cylinder as there are many types of both.

Red is dangerous, green is safe.

Yes, but red is stop and green is go. It depends which you use most.

I think, if in doubt ‘stop’ is a better option.

Yes, yes and yes.
Yes.
Yes.

Both propane.

I have this nipple but as much as I press it and fondle it the flames thing refused to do anything.

What type of gas bottle are you using? If it’s the type with a brass tap on top, just check it is actually working. Make sure you are outside and well away from any sources of ignition. Remove the regulator and open the brass tap. If you get a strong and constant flow of gas (you will hear it) the valve is ok. If it starts with a strong flow then stops to almost nothing then the cyllinder is faulty.
I know this as it happened to me when bbqing last weekend, fortunately I’d kept receipt and SuperU exchanged it.

Done that test and can confirm bottle and its valve are working.

Ok, next thing to test if gas is coming out of the regulator and hose when unattached to the BBQ.

Hi @Jaye_Daniels and welcome.

I hope that you are not to hungry now and perhaps you got the thing working?

Just wondering if you have checked and cleaned the burners on the bbq . Perhaps if they are clogged, the tank and regulator get fed up and close? Dunno, just a guess.

And here’s the reverse side….

This is the button.
